Looking for a small propane cylinder

I am having trouble finding a small propane cylinder for my Dormobile. The originals are British, and all the local propane companies tell me to take them to Mexico to fill them. The originals hold 3.9 kg (8.5 lbs) of propane, are 9.75" diameter, and have an overall height of 13.5 inches. You can see pictures of them near the bottom of one of TeriAnn's pages:

Most of those pictures are ones I took for TeriAnn.

My trouble is, I can find tanks that are a little smaller (dia 9.125 x 11.75 tall), but they hold only half as much propane. I would like to find something that holds at least 8 lbs. I can probably go with a slightly larger dimensions, maybe dia 10.5 x 15 tall.

Does anyone know of a source?

If you really want to continue to use those cylinders you could just get the new overfill device installed. I am pretty sure you can have them installed by your local propane company like Suburban Propane. It is usually just as expensive to get the device installed as it is to get a new cylinder.

Sounds like a heck of a good reason to just go to Mexico to me!

Heck...with that nice setup...I'll join you...and you can cook!

Unless I'm mistaken, the issue is bigger than just the fill adapter. I believe that any pressure tanks are supposed to have a DOT* stamp (which the British tanks wouldn't have), as well as a hydro inspection date stamp that is within the last 10? years?

Not saying that you couldn't find a fill station that doesn't know or care to check, but if you want them filled at any station you go by while traveling across the country, I'd go with current US tanks.

*Actually, the DOT stamp may only be legally required if you are commercially transporting the tanks, but I'm really not sure about that one. And neither would the fill monkey. Someone with better info please correct me if I'm wrong.
