Looking for advice

I'm looking at either buying a military/bantam trailer or buy a trailer kit from Sierra 4x4 and build it up myself. The end state is to create an off road adventure trailer. Before I even start down this path I thought I would ask for some advice.

I have found some military/bantam trailers for about $700. They appear to be in decent shape. I would want to lengthen the tongue and make a top for it and put toyota 6 lug hubs on it.

The Sierra kit could cost as much as $3500 given my specifications and I would have to paint and assemble myself.

Budget is an issue. I need to do this over time and as cost effectively as possible.

Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Either way you are going to have to do some work (or pay someone to do some work). The real question is how much do you want to spend and what kind and how much of the work are you going to do yourself. I think most of us will agree that "the build" itself is very rewarding. Whether you do the work yourself or have someon do it to your specifications. There are many other questions to consider as well, such as what type fo terrain are you to travel over with it, how long will you average trips be, etc.

Although there are many awesome "from scratch" builds here, there are also many fabulous "re-builds" of military trailers. I have restored 2 M100 s to military specs and am currently working on a a scatch build expedition trailer. I have enjoyed the work (and have learned a great dela from the threads in here). Much like off road vehicle (all of you jeep owners know what I am talking about) owners, the creation/build is never really finished.
