Looking for ideas for a small trailer with a bathroom

Long story short - going into "partnership" with my folks and build a trailer. Our needs semi overlap. For them they need to sleep two, table jnside and a toilet. Outside kitchen thingy (teardrop style external - exposed by raising sloped back wall). My needs... Sleeps three (two adults one child 2 years old and growing like crazy so no bunk bed for now)

Goal for now to build it and outfit it under 1500 lbs with electrical brakes. Dirt road capability no offroading on this one.

Thoughts on designs? I've searched a bit on the web and so far I came up with some designs that I would need to merge and I'm wondering if there is anything out there that's very close to meeting both sets of needs.

Might want to look at the threads with the converted cargo trailers. Can fit a lot in there depending on the length. And are you talking a proper bathroom... say with a sink and shower? Or would a portable toilet that can slid out from a cupboard or under a bench work? Do you need a shower, or just the can?

Stubby looks interesting. What's the dry weight of it?
Re bathroom - no shower. Sink would in the outside kitchenette thing. Also still deciding on the suitcase style portable toilet vs built in toilet.

No idea on weight. Its a CAD model only but depending on construction type you could get it in the 1200-1500 range easily I think.

A cassette toilet will make plumbing a lot easier, as it means you don't need to have a black water holding tank. If your only sink is going to be outside, you could plumb it to drain directly to a tank (such as an aquatainer) underneath, precluding the need for any run of pipe.

Have a look at The Squidget. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but its plans could form the basis for a solution that does fit your needs.

Changes that came to mind for me included:
  • Adding a slideout kitchen in the back that could fit under a slightly raised bed platform.
  • Switching the forward galley to a twin bunk. (I know you didn't need the additional sleeping, but adding a fold away top bunk means there's room for a friend if needed.)
  • Starting with a lifted axle trailer and/or making the wheel arches larger to accommodate a larger wheel/tire to give more clearance.
  • Adding underbelly protection from road debris.

Look at casita or scamp trailers. They both have 13foot models that are supposed to be under 1200pounds. A little suspension work and they would go down any dirt road you want. The little one would have to sleep on the floor or something, but its another option to check out.

The former is going to give you a lot more options, and will require a lot less space. If it's a privacy thing, you could always install a privacy curtain sectioning off part of the trailer.

Galley.JPGGalley2.JPG Well, I saw this in an ad for a teardrop for sale last week and shared it with the Teardrop Trailer forum on Facebook. Seemed to get a lot of response. Definitely different.

Curious where this went ?
Was anything built or bought?
