Louder horns??

Put a meter on your horns and have somebody press the button. You will see a voltage drop. If it's more than 1.3v then just add a relay near your horn to get the voltage back up. If that's not enough then snag old Cadillac horns out of a junkyard. You will already have the big relay to power them so you can just add them along with your stock horns.

I think the one with the non-waterproof amp is a bit cheaper, but that amp has to be mounted inside the cabin and wires run out to the horn unit. I grabbed a link to the waterproofed system because I figured that would be more appropriate for an overland rig.

You can sometimes find those systems on eBay, so possibly look there too.

If anything I'd go for the 150 and mount the horn outside the cabin.

I just had success with this same issue, a marine 12v stainless dual trumpet horn that sounds like an old caddy only better?.....http://www.marinco.com/en/10011

It is plenty loud but more likely to make smiles than get you shot. Mine is an AFI XL that sounds so good I don't care that the Amazon reviews are poor........

I have had the little compressor airhorn combo units and had poor reliability especially in the winter, the junkyard horns we like can be rusty junk due to age.........

Thanks for the link. I hadn't thought about marine horns yet. Looks like there are some other good options for these as well, although larger in footprint than the Stebel or Hella.

The sound of the Hellas does not appeal to me,they sound like they should be on a VW bus full of hairy legged women.

concur.

I don't want to sound like a semi air horn, but I need a deeper horn for my Suburban, something with some authority. I want a horn that induces a person's subconscious to GTFO of my way, not some beepbeep annoyer. I want their subconscious babbling 'oh****I'mdead', not 'sodoffyoubeta'
