Lowrance BAJA GPS - How do you use it?

I have an HDS-5 that I have just started playing with. I got my maps uploaded, and need to transfer my waypoints over from my 276C. I exported the waypoints and then imported them into MapCreate and saved them as a usr file. What do I do from there to upload it onto the HDS-5? I tried just saving the usr file onto the SD card, but none of my points showed up. I haven't found a good users guide for the HDS yet, any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

After you write them to the card, load it into the HDS, and you will likely have to manually LOAD the file from the card on the unit. That is the way my Baja 480C is. I actually like it that way. It lets you load only the route you are interested right now - without having to manage files on the card.

I'd just like to get my map sofware to load on my computer without locking it up.
There's a lot I don't understand about my Baja unit, but I only use it a few times
a year.

Map stich points off

Have any of you experienced any inaccurate data in the 540c? What I'm talking about is where you will cross from one grid to another and line at which the two maps are stichted together is off. A great example is on the Eastern end of the Mojave trail, as you cross under the powerlines - the road passes almost straight underneath however the map shows you hitting the powerlines about 1/4 mile from where you leave them. It's not an update, it's inaccuracy in how the map was stiched together.

Has anyone else seen this with the maps on the Baja 540 or am I cross-eyed?

I have seen this a number of times, I think? Frequently, and usually on highways, but sometimes on trails, my track will parallel the line of the road that is on the screen. Usually by some small distance. Sometimes its explainable, for example, a 2 lane highway became a divided 4 lane highway, and I'm on the new side, paralleling the older 2 lane portion. But often its not readily understandable.

How do you save your tracks?

Okay, I have the breadcrumb thing turned on in my Baja 540c, and I LOVE that feature, but I'd like to learn how to start/stop it. And more importantly, I'd like to know how to save my track to the SD card. I have played with every menu option and feature i can find, without success.

Lastly, how do you label a waypoint? There is no alphanumeric data entry method that I can discern

Lacking these fundamental usage features, my Baja 540 is used primarly as a speedometer to compensate for the oversize tires on our Jeep. There is a way to get the various readouts to display as overlays (transparent text boxes) so that just the numbers display, and you can make them bigger or smaller, and position them where you want on the screen. this is a very cool feature, but I can't do the simply things like save a trip.

Lets see If I can remember how to turn that on and off. Menu Menu, cursor down to My trails, hit enter enter, that will start a new trail. Or you can take the X out of that box and it will turn that feature off. The feature to transfer data is off the main menu that has the side arrow with a drop down menu, but without it in front of me I can't remember which one. It will say "Transfer Data" though. Those are about the only two things I know how to do, hope that helps, if not, PM me and I'll go out to the Jeep and write down more detailed information while I'm looking at the thing.
