LR3 Ownership Update - Three Months: Problems ==> Solutions

Problem: A/T still suck in mud, 18s with Terra Grapplers turn into slicks on the terrain that I'll be exploring most often.

Solution: Ordered five LR3 17s from Lucky8 and five Goodyear 32x10.5x17 MTRs to fit them.

Result - turn the 18s into street with all seasons, throw on the 17s for the upcoming mini overland expedition to Overland Expo, Trans American Trail, and Kentucky Adventure Trail.

Thank you to Justin and team at Lucky8 - the service and work you put into this community is unrivaled. I was really worried about losing the camaraderie and support that the Jeep world has when I bought a Land Rover, you've exceeded expectations. I can't wait to see how it does in the muddy Michigan rain forests with new shoes.

Duratracs fail in the mud just like any other TA. A mud claw design is necessary for the type of mud I'm dealing with. Duratracs definitely won't make the cut, it's an AT just like the Terra Grappler in the picture. They don't sipe mud in the slightest, and turn to slicks.

There is some truth in your statement..however I have never been stuck in the red NC, SC and GA mud that we have using Duratracs...My WK has no lockers and a brake assist traction control system with 4LO.

Same trail and this guy had a set of Goodyear Wrangler AT tires. You can see the difference between the AT and the Duratrac

What made you choose to drop to the 17 in a 32x10.5 rather than stick with the 18" mtr in a 32x10.8 (275/65)?

I put mtr's on my classic and absolutely love them in the mud. You will be happy

If its going to be a second set of tires, cut the crap and put BFG KM2s on. They ride just fine on the highway and once aired down, perform well off road.

Considering its a 2nd set, why not just get a tire you know won't be a problem in mud.

Reserve the duratracs for a true compromise situation. With two sets of wheels you aren't in a compromise situation.

I didn't buy the Duratracs, I bought the true mud tire, the MTR. There won't be a compromise, I'll have all season tires on the 18s going forward with mud terrains on the 17s.

Siping is for traction on wet surfaces - the little cuts like on boat shoes... I think you mean "shed" mud.
