LR3 trailer lights inop (sometime)

Hi all, I posted this on a Land Rover repair board and have not heard much yet so I thought I'd put it on here:
So I've had this problem from day one of hooking up a trailer. Basically when driving for more than a few hours towing a trailer (I've had 2 trailers and the same experience) the right blinker on the trailer stops working. All blinkers and lights work fine up until this point. Once it stops working if I pull over, turn the truck off and restart it then everything works fine again.
It seems crazy, almost like a breaker is being tripped and restarting the truck is resetting it. Any idea what's going on?
Thanks,

First off, awesome web site, so sorry for your loss. I didn't see any details surrounding the murder of your young son for a reason to be sure.

It's a great cause, and makes you realize how fragile life is indeed. Happy birthday to Axel.

On your lighting issue, I would suspect that the issue is related to a bad ground or problem with the plug. Maybe with some help you can trace the wires, and wiggle them around and see if you get the symptoms while not moving. I can come up with service manual schematics if it helps, drop me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll get you the info.

Do you have the issue with the lights blinking, it seems like that comes up when using something with LED lights. Does the vehicle realize that the trailer is still connected when the issue starts (when you put it in reverse, etc.) ie: the trailer indicator is on the dash.

Thank you

Thank you for the kind words. With regard to the light's, all other lights on the trailer work (running, left turn and brake) just the single turn lamp is not functioning. And again if I turn off the truck and then restart then it works fine again!
I'll PM you my email.
Thank you.

A long shot, but are the lights led trailer lights? If there is insufficient current draw, the lights will behave very erratically... U-haul sell an adapter with resistors and magic smoke that increase current draw to ensure the Land Rover is aware it has a trailer behind it. It plugs into the standard land rover plug, going from the round to the flat trailer plug. I am not sure if other varieties of plugs are supported. It is very handy for other vehicles too, like Touareg's and Cayennes.
Wishing you well.

One issue that I have had with trailer lights behaving very similarly to yours was actually a bulb that was just slightly loose. Restarting the truck vibrated it just enough to cause connection. Just something worth thinking about if all else fails.

I included the spec sheets on an LED adapter in the documents I sent him, I suspect something else.

The Genuine Light Bulbs, with filaments installed vertical is a good point. Also, might as well replace that brake light switch, though that may not be the immediate problem, it is only a matter of time.
