Hello,

So I have a 1984 military surplus k5. I got a custom bumper which is pretty heavy and a military 24v 12k winch with steel line. I'm having it re geared to 4.10's this week to give a little more power when plowing or towing the 416 trailer.

I was looking at an add a leaf or re arching to help it from sagging as well as running the 33's. But have gone away from that plan due to reviews online. I'd like to keep as close to stock ride height as possible. I got on Sd springs as they seem to have the best prices. Does anyone have any experience with this company?

I'm also trying to decide between the three leaf and four leaf. Here's the four leaf:

If anyone has a k5 maybe they can confirm but I'm pretty sure they came with two leaf springs from the factory. Sd spring says that each two leaf is 1,200lbs, the three leaf is 1,400lbs and the four leaf hd is a big step up at 1,900lbs each.

The way I figure it's cheaper to just re spring at about $89.00 to $120.00 than add a leaf anyways. The add a leaf is about 80 bucks and surely won't last longer than new leaf spring packs.

Any experience will be appreciated and here's pics of the bumper and winch. Not the plow yet though. photo 4-9_kindlephoto-22851528.jpg

I emailed SD Springs once on a Ford x code spring, they said manufactured in USA,with either Mexican or Canadian steel. I sent then an email about these hopefully it's the same. Thanks in advance for the input guys.

Hey I got an ichy trigger finger and ordered the four leaf SD Springs rated at 1,900lbs on sale. I will post up some reviews when there in. Since it was no increase in shipping I sold my soul and ordered x code springs for my super duty too. I was set on atlas springs so ill see how these work out. I figure it's worth a shot.

Let me work on that lol. Been super busy felling trees and splitting wood. Rides a bit higher in front but not much. Looks good, but I'm going to throw new leafs in the read too.

Yeah, I'd like to see pictures too! From the factory, your choice was 2 or 3 leaf springs. For Blazers and Suburbans, diesels and plow package got the 3-leaf springs, and everything else got 2-leaf springs so far as I know. Even on the trucks, I'm not aware of any 4 leaf springs at all from the factory, but it's possible a diesel 3+3 might have got them.

The factory springs were 220lb/in if 2-leaf and 330lb/in for the 3-leaf, so I'd assume your 4-leaf springs are up around 400lbs/in, which is REALLY stiff, but probably good for plowing, and should have boosted the front end by an inch or so. :)

BDS makes a front spring that does not have the negative arc that the stock springs have. Way better ride and control. Just get the 2 inch lift springs for your vehicle and you are good to go.:victory:
