M101CDN offroad RTT trailer

well after lurking on many forums and checking out builds all over the net for about a year i finally got the trailer. An M101CDN, picked it up for $950.00 in Kelowna B.C. Canada and the guy has about 16 more if anyone is interested. Yes you read the right 16. Kelowna is north of the Washington border by 3 hours for all the americans who will be interested. So right away i did a spring over lift and put 35" tires and new wheels to match the Jeep. this way i just carry one spare. now a friend of mine is doing a bunch of fab work to it before i get it back and take it to the paint shop. i will let the pics tell the rest of the story.

as it was when i found it

during the spring over lift i also converted the 24 volt military lighting to 12 volt.

then dropped it off with a friend for new wider fenders and a lid and front mount battery/propane box.

now we are just waiting on the laser guys to finish cutting and bending the steel for the front batt/propane box and i have also ordered a custom water tank to go above the axle between the frame rails. we will mount the tank with straps and put a rock/mud shield around it.

hopefully in a week or so i should have the tent and awning mounted up. then just dissasemble and take to the paint shop. let me know what you think.

cheers

in the gap between the tongue box and trailer tub i will be running the water/poer/propane lines.

just waiting on the counter top that will mount to the passenger side of the trailer for cooking and other duties. once that is finished it is tent and awning mount time.....

Nice - I too like the fenders

you might want to strip down d-rust / clean and grease the leaf springs while it gets painted, some here also missed a leaf or two whilst re-assembling to lower the spring weight.

In order to stop your eggs getting scrambled

Ammunition seemingly weighs less than camping gear

thanks for the kind words guys, will keep this thread going as the build is completed.

i have already taken 2 leafs out on each side of those massive spring pacs. as for painting....the whole thing is getting disassembled and will be sandblasted and painted. during reassembly i will of course be doing a complete greasing of what needs it and replacing shocks.

Damn nice fab work folks! That's one of the cleanest lines I ever seen on a can mil trailer. Very nice work. I take it you going to make an adjustable length hitch? Looks a lil close up front with the box.

I think you have achieved something that many aspire towards but few gain.

You have retained the rugged military feel of the trailer, while adding to it in a functional and artistic way.

The whole build comes together very nicely with everything blending together.

A job well done.

wow guys, i figured i would get a few nice comments but you have surpased that. i wanted to let you all know that all of your words are very appreciated.

i also wanted to pass on my thanks and appreciation to my friend who is really responsible for the amazing looks of the trailer "Gary" is the guy doing all the design and fab and is really the brains and brawn behind the build. i only found the trailer and had the basic plan, he put it all into action.

Yup, nice looking trailer for sure. I love the custom fabbed stuff and how clean you kept all the lines.

You could sell those fenders at $300 bucks a pair all day long.

Looking forward to your progress.:victory:

What material's were used for your lid? Is it all a single sheet that has been bent at the edges or is there some kind of frame with a skin? What thickness of sheet was used? Looks very nice.
