This one is local. (5 miles from work). Its a M105. And list it like this.... JOHNSON CORP MDL M105A2 2 WHEEL 1 1/ 2 ton. Gov auction and the only one at the site. Thought I would see if I could get it cheap. Maybe use it for the roof top tent I am not using. I know its big with its 9' bed but I will pull it with a F 350 Crew Cab! What do you think??

And one about 6 hours away with the bows and cover

Bows and cover with the trailer seem to go for over $350

It looks like it’s about 2700 lbs empty. With my truck, I will not even feel it back there. Also did some measuring, Roof top tent will fit well! Anyone use one of the 105’s with a bigger truck?

The M105 is a HEFTY trailer. There are a few floating around at work and I can't imagine towing one overland. I believe they were primarily designed for use behind the larger M35 trucks like the duece and a half.

For a fullsize pickup I'd probably go for the 3/4 ton M101 trailers.

M-105 trailer

Hello,

Thought I'd chime in on the 105 thread.

I've had my 105 (actually a CDN 104) for a few years now and it really is a hefty well-built trailer. That being said, they are way to big to be towed properly behind anything but a large truck. Mine was delivered behind a Dodge 3500 dually - which did tow it with ease, but the bumper height of the Dodge made the trailer sit really nose heavy - and those Dodge bumpers are really high. A friend tried to tow it with his Duramax dually and we had to use the high-lift jack just to get the landing leg up since the bumper height was so low.

I tow mine with the 416 (U1100) Unimog. It tows it well height wise, and it looks like it belongs behind it but it is a heavy trailer even empty and the Mog struggles to hold 45mph even on a flat grade. Most of the newer style trailers have air-powered brakes which won't work behind your standard pick-up, and I wouldn't try to stop one that was loaded up without them.

They are great trailers if you have a proper rig to tow them with. IMO most people would be much happier with the 101 series. The bed size is not that different and the weight and height differences are substantial. The original 101's were made to ride behind the CUCV's and pick-ups. Check out the site below and goto the "Trailers Section" for pics and write-ups on both of these models.

Not trying to brag but the weight of the trailer is not going to be a problem with the T 444E diesel. Now the hitch height, that may be a problem. With
5” lift and 35” tires I am at 26 1/4" for the hitch.

This is what I have in mind for the M 105(Thanks
Louie).....

M105

Hi Louie,

I'm not sure what shape it is in but for $276 it seems cheap. Just for scrap they must be worth almost that. Don't forget to check out your local surplus dealer - these are hard to sell and often they have a few laying around. If you buy it from Gov Liq. make sure you can physically see if before buying it.

I'm not saying your truck won't tow it, I'm sure it would with ease - it all depends on what you are doing with it. If you are going to tow it off-road over some fairly rough steep terrain then I would worry about the loss of traction in your truck with that much weight on the back. If you are going to be cutting down trees and hauling firewood out of the bush then they are perfect, but for a camper set-up like my 101 (pictured below) then I would think the 105 to be a bit too much. The 101 might be a better choice for you. They have a 3/4 ton payload (off-road) are light enough to lift and move around, and have an eight foot bed similar to a standard pickup. Check them out and see what you think. The 105's are great, but they are a pita to hook up and move around when not hooked to the truck.

Good luck.

I purchased an m105 trailer a couple of weeks ago and towed it just fine with no problems behind my tundra yea its big and heavy but as long as its weight is in the tow capacity of the vehicle your towing it with there should be no problems. one thing ive been trying to find out is if there are any electric brake kits for the 105 with out changing the whole axle.. does anybody know?

Ha....I asked this back in 2007. I now have 2 M416's and 2 M101a3's. And sold my best one, the Pioneer Tool Trailer.

I think the 105 is an easy tow but why move all that weight of the 105 when you can get a M101a2 trailer for about the same money or a bit more.

Another thing is if you get stuck and need to unhook from a M416/M101a2 and "hand" move it around, it can be done. I don't think one person(or two) could move around a M105 trailer off road by hand very well or at all....
