M1102 build

I'm new to the site and new to overlanding. I've done lots of backpacking and primitive camping. That's fine, but my wife and younger children aren't as excited to sleep on the ground so, I picked up a m1102 trailer as a expedition style trailer project. I know many folks are modifying these things. Just wanted to share what I'm doing.
First I switched out The 24v bulbs to 12v.
I have a 7pin converter so no need to completely re-wire

I have now removed the surge break and Lunette ring. I welded a 2in receiver on the underside of the tongue effectively dropping the tongue height by 4in and extending by 13in. This also allows me to switch different couplers in the future. I'm planning on possibly using a max coupler but the pintle/Lunette combo seems fine right now. I don't notice much noise.

The ultimate plan is to make a topper similar to fresno's build but, we will see how it goes. I may wind up building a rack with a rooftop tent.

The goal is a rugged, spacious weekend camper for all seasons.
-cheers

Looks like your well on your way!! You'll probably get better views putting this in the Expo-trailer section.

I've "civilized" three of these trailers now, including ditching the heavy 37" runflats for 285's on GM aluminum wheels (2" lower trailer) and relocating the axles do drop the trailer another 2.5-3.5". The surge brakes on my trailers work amazingly well, so I left them alone on purpose. Even dropped 5" or so, the trailers are still plenty tall for offroad clearance, but low enough that it's much easier to get stuff in and out.

Have fun with your build!!

Thanks. I'm not sure how to move the thread, I guess start a new one. I really like the look of the bead locks. I think I will keep the 37" tires and lose the run flats and replace with the pvc inserts to save a little more weight.
