Fellow travelers and whom not,
I've owned my M416/ Camping Lab Serengeti Trailer Tent Combo for 3 years. I love it, but like most budget builds thing get left off the list. One of those items was storage access. I cut a tail gate into the back of my trailer, before you hang me, please know most of that rear panel is body filler. It was pretty beat up and I attempted to made it straight......so I added a tail gate. Getting gear from the front to the back is a challenge, first you pull out the closet items the. You crawl on the roughest bed liner known to man on your belly to retrieve the other items.
The lift a side idea is good but doesn't work well with the method I've used to attach the trailer
To the tent. Which by the way is a section of L channel bolted to the interior of the trailers left and right edges. With 3 sets of Yakima q tower and round crossbars. The tent is attached with u-bolts to the round bars.
My thought was to add HD drawer slides either parallel to the bottom of the trailer tent and on top of the bars, or mount the slides on the sides of the bars perpendicular with a section of L channel to mount to the tent. Now the trick is to have the slides go 1/2 way or 3/4 but no so far as to make the trailer flip over. 1/2 way might be best.
Unlike a normal roof tent once camp is set the slides cannot be activated w/o a lot of un-tensioning guy lines. So either leave it half cocked and locked or remove contents and lock in the travel position.
Thoughts on the lunacy of this idea?
