Mac Encryption

It was very depressing to watch a friend use a backdoor in Mac's File Vault to gain access to my personal records in less time than it took you to read this sentence. He got the how to info off the net... Meaning that bit of 'security' is a joke.

Do any of you know of good strength encryption devoid of a backdoor or
otherwise easily broken? I understand cybertext a little and know that all of it can be broken - it's comes down to how badly someone wants the info and how long are they willing to spend getting it.

I was very sad to learn of the government compelling the new owners of PGP into making it easy to access. Perhaps all crypto sold in the USA is this way. Hope not.

Try TrueCrypt.org, we did some analysis last year and can be very secure.

Plus is stable in macOSX.

My understanding is that if FileVault is enabled without a Master Password there is no back door access, the downside is that if you forget your user password all of you data will be lost.

The master password would have been set through the Security panel in the System Preferences.

I thought the same thing, then saw the myth unraveled in seconds.
