Made my plans last night for the UK

I have friends in the UK and I made plans with them to come over and pick up a 110 1983/84.

I am only going to have a few things done to it before shipping so I can have Rovers North or the 4x4 center do the work

what engine should I look for? I have found everything from new 300tdis and 200tdis for 5k$ all included right out of the Rover freight, to Mistubishi engines and other Asian diesels plus V8s

would it be less expensive to just get a newer rig with no engine and tranny?

this is about long range miles so diesel is a +

any info would be appreciated - :D

what is the difference between a kit car and is a 25 year old considered "classic"?

I would recommend the 300tdi. It's a very simple diesel, not much in the way of electronics, very reliable (in its later iterations) and quite fuel efficient. The 200tdi is also a very good engine, but getting nice versions of it is getting harder since it's been out of production for so long.

Only thing to watch on the 300 is the timing belt, make sure you change that before you leave. And NEVER let it over heat. The head is alloy and can warp pretty badly if the engine over heats.

If you do go for a 300, go for the TD5 version of the R380 gearbox. It was uprated over the original R380.

We have 90,000km on our 300 and have never ever had a problem with it.

cheers
