Hi everyone, I have been combing all around this site for some time now and have found just tons of information, great ideas and great experiences. So I wanted to share the start to one of my own and carry it through. I am taking this little adventure as my vacation before re-deployment to Iraq at the end of this month. I am an avid outdoors man and always love a good adventure and meeting new people. But I will have my GF Lindsey and her son Aeden (2 1/2) along as well so the equipment and supplies are multiplied. I have been planning and working on a M101A2 trailer build which I will post in the proper trailer section.
I will be leaving out Saturday afternoon (Aug 6th) I would really like to leave earlier but I have mandatory function but no worries it wont slow me down. Lindsey cannot leave until Sunday evening (She is also military and a Irish read head... She may be more dangerous then the Bears we could encounter during this trip). So she will fly out to Chicago and I will meet her there to continue our westward travels. We are heading for Yellow Stone but will not be camping there since everyone is on vacation there but also its just not our style of camping. So the Grand Tetons is our actual camping destination.
We will have about 10 days in the area and we have not planned out any activity list so we can just enjoy the landscape and explore the area. We will visit Yellow stone and its major attractions and hopefully short lines. One perk from this trip is that my Family's farm in Idaho is only about two hours away and although I have heard stories growing up and have seen old pictures it just cant beat seeing it in person. Its a 1,000 acres in Swan Valley just up from the Snake River on a plateau that backs into the mountains. I will also take the time to meet with my great uncle and aunt who are both in their 90's respectively and I am not sure when or if I would ever get the opportunity to meet them again and are the last of my grand fathers siblings.
Our expedition vehicle for this trip is my very recently new to me 2006 F250 Crew cab, FX4 Lariat diesel pickup. It has 210K on the clock nearly 1500 miles in a little over a week of my travel already but it was maintained religiously by an elderly man who who had a camper in the back and travel all over with his dog, so it is fitting that it will server another explorer in nearly the same way. I am glad he kept it so clean and maintained as it really does look NEW inside and out and runs like new as well. The vehicle I had wanted to use but had no time to prepare was my 1988 Grand Wagoneer but it will be ready for the next adventure for sure. Lindsey and I both agree this would have made for a comfortable and iconic adventure.
Well I will keep things up to date as best I can and post about our adventures.
