I'd seen it before, but never the floorplans showing the unique way that the trailer folds. I'll have to spend some more time looking at that. Not that I'll ever be able to afford such a toy...

Absolutely

I just find it really cool what people are building for full on global expeditions. I couldn't imagine the cost for transporting a vehicle like that from continent to continent.

Can we say sponsor!!!!

You know, this thing seems to be the toy of a multi-millionaire whose (not-so)secret dream is to be 007.

Or maybe a real-life Richie Rich

I'm so insanely jealous.

Where in the world are they going to put that boat and UUV??

And if they take this thing to any country that doesn't have a spy capability as advanced as, well, the CIA, will it be conscripted?

By the way, I'm still really jealous. That's one serious technogeek rig. It should come with Alfred Pennyworth at the wheel. ;)

I have no idea.

All I know is that ALLOT of gear to bring with you. I imagine you need a few engineers to come along to operate everything.

I'm just surprised they haven't integrated a lunar excursion module. They seem to have everything else. :)

I question the 6 foot fording limit...

The snorkle starts at the guys head (5'6" at least) that puts the top of the snorkle at nearly 12 ft... with a positive pressure cabin you should be able to drive with water to the top of the windows and watch the fish swim around you:snorkel: as you navigate across the river via the top mounted camera system:088:

Pretty wild...

Even a rig this heavy is going to start to float at some point. I'll bet that if you don't flood the cabin it's going to be a barge in 5'6" of water. And with all the toys inside, you certainly wouldn't want to flood the cabin.

When I was in the military driving M151s with fording kits, if we didn't open the doors and flood the cabin they would start to loose traction in fairly shallow water. Open the doors, however, and they would crawl along the bottom with water flowing over the hood.

Water depth is no longer a problem...

Just cross this thing with the "Bison" posted under "Other Custom Expedition Campers" and water depth is no longer an issue... instant house boat!
However, now you have to build a crossing ramp from the main unit to the trailer... but that should be a piece of cake for these guys.:ylsmoke:

Eeek:

DOES THE TRAILER HAVE TO BE CONNECTED TO THE MAXIMOG® VEHICLE TO GET POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS?

While the trailer can be connected to the trailer for power, communications and data, it does not need to. It has it’s own water cooled quiet 25KW generator which can supply power, air conditioning or heat, or hydraulic power to operate the wheel motors at low speeds (Both 4 wheel drive and steering) for campsite positioning or power assist for off road mobility.

No problem... The owner rented a 747 cargo to bring the mog and trailer from Germany to New York.
I was working on that vehicle for a while and was highly impressed ( and shocked) on the amount of $$$$ that customer invested in to it!

I'd like to add that to my knowledge the Maximog has never actually been used for international travel.
And I'll leave my opinion of removing a good Mercedes diesel and replacing it with a 350 gas V8 to myself.

:sombrero: agreed! I also think that it will never travel the world...

One of the characteristics of Unicat before their bankruptcy/reorganization in 2006-7 that may have been problematic was their willingness to undertake any project desired by a customer, no matter how impractical.
Now I think they are more focussed on their "core" business of building "mainstream" expedition campers, similar to mine. although they still will build ones with the raising roof and "over the top" ones occaisonally, like the MAN 8X8. There's quite a story about the mine-proof U2450L6X6, which I won't go into in public.
