Mean green alternator on the blink

My Mean green alternator is not charging like it used to and does not charge at all at idle.

I would like to just get the GM clone the MG is and use the same adapter and
get on with it.

Does anyone know what to ask for at the parts store? I know there all sorts of modifications with GM alternators but this should be very simple.

Thanks Mike

Many, if not most, alternators don't really charge at idle, IIRC. It may be as simple as a voltage regulator or diode that has gone bad.

I'm assuming it's internally regulated. Have you checked the brushes? Does it charge at higher RPMs than idle?

This alternator charged at idle. Now it is showing under 10 volts. I am looking for an electrical shop that might be able to look at it. I'd rather replace it as it is 10 years old.

For either rig in your signature line you should be able to go to the local parts store and pick up a replacement; although I've had interesting luck with cases fitting Land Cruiser bracketry, and being indexed correctly. It might be better to have it rebuilt, but just take the MG in and compare....

My local parts store has just about anything I need on the shelf or if not it is a day away. I got a clutch slave for my 1977 FJ40 right off the shelf.

Good idea to take it and see what matches. I just wonder if MG has their proprietary connector.

GM internally regulated alternators are mostly 1 wire, case ground, so I'm betting even a swap over won't be that difficult, and most stores sell the GM alternator plugs separately from the alternators.
