Mic interchangability?

I'm looking to see what DTMF mics will work with my Icom 706MkIIG. The ones that show up as options are also options for much less expensive single band radios. Does that mean that the DTMF mics that come with those less expensive radios may work with the 706? In some cases it would appear that I could buy an entire radio for slightly more than the cost of the mic alone!

Does any one have a 706 that they have used a DTMF mic on? If so what mic did you use and what functions were active?

Generally you can swap mic's between similar vintage radio from the same manufacture, but you always need to check the pinouts in the manual to confirm. Some radio's have extra mic features that use pins differently. DTMF mics for the 706 are not very common and not interchangeable with man other Icom mobiles due to the fact the 706 takes Electret condenser. Icom sells the HM-154 DTMF mic for the 706, you can get it under $60 and thats not a bad price.
