Michelin LTX A/T2

I'm about to put some tires on my 98 Grand Cherokee. I have a 2 inch lift and will be using 245/75R16 tires or something very close in size. I'm seriously looking at the Michelin LTX A/T2, specifically the P245/75R16 and was looking for soem input on them or some others.

Mostly going to be highway use, but occasionally inclimate weather and light to moderate mud, dirt, and rocks.

I'm hearing good stuff on the A/T2's but would like more input from you guys.

i had them in 265/70-16 and they were awesome tires. i put about 20k miles on them and when i sold them, they still had about 75% tread remaining. they balanced well, rode well, were very quiet, didn't wear unevenly, and worked great off road. i ran them at Barnwell, Shiloh Ridge, BVORR, Spring Creek, etc. and everyone was always surprised at how well they performed.

they're an awesome highway all-terrain, if only a bit expensive.

Yes I was thinking about these as my road set, if I could get arounf the price I migth buy them. Using eBay as a example a set of 285.75.16 go for $836 + $126 shipping and a set of Nitto TG's in 295.75.16 are $580 + $99 shipped. While I will get 50-60k out of the Michelins for the cost difference the Nitto's will last 45-60k and provide better occasional offroad traction. But since I use the AT tire for 95% of my trips, adventures and daily driving I'm a bit biased.

the Terra Grapplers are garbage off road. plenty of my buddies wheel them and though they make a great highway tire, they aren't very good at all off the pavement.

my michelin LTX A/T2's outperformed them every time.

I have a hard time believing a set of road tires out perform an All Terrain regardless of make. I have had 7 sets of the Nitto's on multiuple vehicle and have never had a problem (other than clay like mud, which most tires succumb to unless they are of the interco breed). I can only speculate as to why you shine and your friends do not but it might have something to do with the pilot or inexperience.

We've had a couple sets of Michelin LTX's on our '99 F350. I'm not sure we've had the LTX AT/2 on there - I think that's a newer model since the last time we bought tires for the truck. Anyway, we've been very happy with the mileage, balance and performance for what we use them for. This truck sees mostly pavement use, a lot of that carrying a camper. We do take it off road, but mostly pretty tame stuff, getting to a trail head or a good fishing spot on dirt roads. Never had any complaints about them.

I loved the Michelin LTX M/S tires I had on my 100 Series; amazingly capable and civil tires. They are wonderful pavement tires and were excellent in reasonable snow and light mud. I like them so much, I also put them on the Sprinter camper, my Astro van and even put them on an old Class A motorhome I had.

I can't speak to the extent to which the LTX A/Ts have the same characteristics as the M/S version. I will say, though, if you think the "light to moderate mud, dirt, and rocks" will really be light and infrequent, you could not go wrong with the LTX M/S.

I too love Michelins but for the $$ I've steered toward others for the last 4 sets of tires. I only drive hundreds of thousands of miles, but what do I know? Michelins if the duty is to be light or med for shorter periods of time and something a bit more aggressive for the others. But since the OP is doing 90% highway with sunny days I'd say these Michelin AT's will work best for him.

Just a little update, I ordered them today. Hopefully they will be here monday. I'll try to get some pics of before and after to post here. I'm going with four for now and next time I get a little overtime I'll order the fifth for my spare.

i have LTX MS tires on my SCOUT II and as others said they were/are great tires for everything up to intermediate off road. i cant speak for the AT2, if they are everything the MS is i cant imagine you'd go wrong if your looking for a tire that meets the needs its made for.

dont fall into the peer pressure of a more agressive tire, michelin does they're home work and if you need a mellow tire that will perform in intermediate off road travel buy them. i will be replacing the MT's that came on my taco with a much less aggressive tire soon, i just dont need a tire that digs in the terrain i live and play. when i take the scout out looks like a buick drove down the trail if you follow me, but for the longest time i swore it had a limited slip diff because of the great traction i got as long as i was easy on the pedal and not spinning tires wildly. my buddies all used to joke about my "street tires" going all over the place.

I hear ya, if the LTX came large enough I would consider them heavily. The 285 is just shy of my preferred size.

I bought a set of LTX for a Trooper when I got it. When we sold the Trooper 65K miles later, the tires were still in good shape, worn but still legal. The Trooper was awesome in the snow with the tires. I would buy them again for any vehicle that is used as a highway vehicle, that occasionally off roads. I think they are a better value then BFG Rugged Trails, and BFG Long Trails.

You pay more for the tires, but they will outlast the less expensive tires.

Here we go boy's and girl's, tires mounted. I must say, so far I'm liking them a bunch. As quiet or even quieter than the street tires that were on it, Goodyear something or others. Great traction, no vibes, we'll see how long they last. With the 2 inch BB lift I didn't have to trim any but I decided to clearence the front bumper cover just to be safe. You can barely tell in the last pic.

I put the AT2s on my 2003 4Runner. So far, they are a great all around tire. It is my wife's truck now, so 95% onroad, 5% offroad. They wear great, are quiet and perform decently well offroad.

I am now trying to decide what to put on the 2001 Range Rover. AT2 vs BFG AT vs Revo2s vs something more aggressive. Since I still use the truck mainly onroad, I think an AT tire is the best for me. I also came across the Goodyear Duratrac, but don't much about them yet.

Here is a pic of the first adventure offroad with them:
