Michelin XCL tires

Recently picked up a Canadian M101 trailer in great shape. I plan to put my roof tent on it and all that. I really dig the Michelin XCL tires on it. They look fairly new, but they are 17 years old and I can feel some slight bumps on the sidewalls. Are they safe to run?

hey nate there pretty heavy duty tires but as you said there old and have been sitting. Its prob ok to run them local but if you plan to do any more serious trips (beyond baker) it would prolly be a good idea to swap them out. new hubs arnt that expensive and would allow you to run matching wheels with your jeep. Ill give you a call later this week about taking a look at that tail gate.

cheers

If the "bumps in the sidewall" are radially oriented, they are like that brand new. As long as there is no significant rubber cracking they would be OK for trailer use but be sure to inflate them to appropriate pressure for load.

If it makes you feel any better, last year I pulled my M101 across the country on the original tires in much the same shape as you've described. They are still going strong.

I'll probably replace them with KM2s once I match the Jeep wheel pattern, but these tires just seem to last.

Some yeas and nays. Hearing about the cross country road trip is encouraging. The furthest I would take them would be halfway across the country. Well, they look so dang cool and the price is right, so maybe a I will just live dangerously for awhile. Thanks for reminding me about those spares Mr. lx450, I think I will pick them up:drool: Anybody know where I can pickup a spare rim?
