Mild Lift for JKU

I am still looking for the best mild lift for the JKU. I have a 2010 Rubi Automatic and want to gain a little more height. I don't want to lose reliability I don't want to worsen the ride but I don't want a ton of lift. I also want to be sure the kit is complete. I don't want to buy X,Y, and Z to make sure the kit is proper for Day to Day use. I don't want a ton of brackets etc... I have been looking at spring spacers but would really prefer better springs and shocks that have an increased spring rate to properly hold more weight. Any suggestions?
I have been waiting to learn about AEV's 2" coil spring lift.

I have been looking at Old Man Emu but don't want to be replacing Drive shafts (due to the Auto).

I would still like to learn more about each of these lifts and others from folks that own them.
Any input is welcomed.

Thanks

I've run most of the JK OME coil sets (currently OME 618/619 coils with long travel OME shocks. With that said if you want to keep it simple go with the 616/617 coil setup and standard shocks. The standard shocks limit travel and I never had driveshaft issues. (auto/driveshaft issues came with the OME long travel shocks).
Take a look at Northridge 4x4 and talk to David the owner- he's solid and doesn't up sell you. He also offers packages to "complete" the OME kit especially as you get into the HD coils or long travel set ups. The long travel kit wheels really well if you play in rocks and if you don't the standard kit should be fine.

On the other hand I'd personally wait to see what the AEV 2.5" coil lift looks like. Supposedly release is imminent & they really go the extra mile with engineering/complete package.

Good luck of the build!

I have the Teraflex performance (spring) lift and like it alot. I threw the OME shocks on with them, and like it a lot. I would go higher, but it is my DD also.

Adds 2 inches in front, 1 inch in the rear.

Hey Matt,

How do you like your OME setup on your JK? I know they are popular with the Land Rover guys, but I haven't heard as much on the Jeep front.

Thanks,

Mike

I had an '07 JKU, and did the OME- yes, due to my Rover experience, and liked it fine, and no drive shaft issues. I am doing an '11 now, and sadly was too impatient to wait for the AEV 2.5", and said what's one more inch and went with the 3.5". I would strongly recommend waiting and going 2.5" AEV especially given your intended use.

I installed the OME HD 2" lift on mu JKU. I netted around 3"-3 1/4". The ride quality is superior to the factory suspension. The lift has been on for 60,000 miles and zero issues!! I pull a 5x10 enclosed trailer on a regular bases and I have had zero sag in the springs! Stock drive shaft only need changed on the two door JK. I ordered through David at Northridge 4x4 as well. Really good customer service.

On the whole it's been good. I wished OME offered a more compete option (especially when you want to run 35s on the kit) - but that's where a place like Northridge stepped in. Unfortunately I built mine up before that was an option and kinda had to figure it all out & spend some extra cash.

On road it's good but has some fading over harsh surfaces. Off road it's tackled everything I've thrown at it (rock gardens, off camber, black level trails).

More and more I'm believing less is more especially when it comes to suspension components (for my needs). Next rig will probably see an AEV kit or might stay on stock suspension. The Rubi out of the box is pretty amazing.

I like many of you have been waiting and waiting for the AEV 2.5 spring lift. My concern with the AEV 2.5 is will the front drive shaft need to be replaced or has AEV addressed that? Anybody have an idea? This is all great info so keep it coming. Matt, I agree with you totally.... Less is more. That has been my philosophy for the improvements made to this jeep.

Big John, what size tires are you running? Looks like 33's.

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, I'm running 33's! Goodyear Duratracs 33 x 11.50. I had the tires on the factory Rubicon wheels at first. After the new wheels went on, the tires looked much larger! The backspacing of the new wheels made a huge differance.

They look great. What wheels are you running. Look slick, love the flat black.

My wife has a 2008 auto Rubicon Unlimited with a 2.5" TF BB. No driveshaft issues wih the 2.5" of lift.
