Got this 2001 Suburban a couple of weeks ago. The plan is a very mild build. This is mainly for transporting my kids to their sports events. It's a daily driver and will be used for fishing and camping trips. I was looking at a 1999 body style, but really liked this one.
It's very well maintained, so far I just changed the oil and the intermediate steering shaft. I found a few instructions for this, so it was a fairly easy process. I did it under an hour, could be much faster next time.
Here it is:

My first "mod" was a cheap toolbox from Harbor Freight. I know, it's not the best, but it was only $30 on sale. I have other tools that I will have in the truck as well.

It fits perfect under the second row seat:

It needs tires. It currently has Nitto Terra Grapplers in LT265 75R16's D rated. I may stay with those tires (previous owner liked them). I am also looking at the Cooper AT3's in a C range (don't think I need the E range and can't find anything in a D range).
I could use some help here for any other suggestions on tires. I live about 2 hours in the mountains east of LA, so we do get some snow. I've had BFG all terrains in the past, they weren't my favorite on the ice. Mostly pavement, occasional off road, mostly fire roads. The stock tires are passenger tire, I think LT's would be much better.
I may remove the running boards, I don't really use them now. I will add some fishing rod holders to the inside as well.
