Miles to empty display

I have a 2002 limited and the miles to empty display is not working. I reset it and it worked for a bit, then just stays the same. Any thoughts? is this a common problem?

Do you have any kind of obd2 reader plugged in all the time? I noticed that with my ultra gauge plugged in, the DTE stays pegged up at 400+ all the time.

I'm not too worried as I use the ultra gauge to get the same feature and many more.

And... I've never seen 400 miles on a tank

Mine used to read 35 on a full tank and slowly drop as I drove through the tank. After I did the timing belt, which meant no battery for a month it's started to work properly. A full tank usually starts out at 425 or so.

Haha...I hate that blasted thing. It's a damned false prophet, always getting my hopes up that this tank will be different than all the last. My ogre will barely get above 300 miles before I panic and rush to a filler station. But that is due to the cluster's gas gauge only working when it wants to, going from empty to accurate at a whim (I'll get around to fixing that one day). My odometer is my gas gauge...all others are "tricksy and false."

Interesting info. I do usually have reader plugged in, due to o2 sensor codes popping up and i haven't had chance to replace sensors or cat. I will remove it and see.
