Military/Safari styled Overlanders

Hi All,
I am new to this forum. I just purchased a 2009 Rubicon Unlimited, White, Manual, Freedom top, and Nav. I was inspired to buy one after seeing the Overland Journal expedition rig, as well as some of the other AEV vehicles. I originally was looking at Land Rover 110s, as I love the safari style, but the prices for older models were comparable to newer Rubicons, which as I began to see could attain the same look with almost better offroad capability.

I am thinking Gobi rack, painted hardtop for that nice NAS 110 look with the black contrasting roof rack. AEV Nth Degree 3.5 lift, with 35" BFG KM2s, AEV bumpers, ARB Simpson II roof-top tent, Mopar Steel winter wheels painted to match the body(up in the air on these unless I can find similar wheels that complete the look I want), and some additional lighting. Eventally I would like to either build a matching M416 expedition trailer or get a Chaser trailer if I can afford it.

I am building less of a crawler, more of an overland tourer. I live in PA and plan on doing an Alaska trip for sure, amongst other National Park trips.

Please post pics of your safari/military styled rigs so I can keep the ideas flowing on possibilities.

Does anyone have any more pictures or info on this rig, pictured in the background of this picture from the 2010 Overland Expo? I am wondering what steel wheels it is running, and how they were able to mount that roof rack with a soft top.

Hope that helps. As for jscherb`s custom top, that thing is sweet!!!! I was following it for a while and then forgot about it. Glad to see it basically done.

We had the J8 here at Overland Journal for a few weeks.
Just Awesome!

The roof rack was mounted to an internal roll cage with mounts that passed through the top, from what I can remember.

Also, that particular J8 was not built by AEV but rather built by the guys at MOPAR.

I figured it was not an AEV vehicle, considering that it is white, and not the sandstone or green colors that AEV only offers. Also I do not think that those are the mopar winter wheels on it, the vent holes are not circular like the mopar wheels. I like the steel wheel look though, works in either black or body matched in white, very nice. The mopars are great, I just hate running spacers, but I'm willing to give in :).

They're def not exactly the 'winter' wheels. The J8s have a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern while a JK has a 5 on 5.

Not all that "military", but all very well suited for a trip to Alaska.

Where are the tops from that first white Rubicon and the Green Sahara from? I like the look of the first one.

Any pictures of Jeeps from Egypt? I know they sell a version over there. There must be some pretty bad*ss looking ones driving around.
