Mistubishi Pajero 1998 V6

Hi,
I found an opportunity for a 1999 Pajero V6 (2 doors - automatic) and would like to know if you could tell me more about this car and what I should pay attention for. I also have an opportunity for a Land Rover Discovery, so I am hesitating. Both have low mileage and seem in good condition.

I am in Timor Leste and plan to use the car as a daily car and also for exploring the country. Outside the city roads are tough...

Thank you.

Cheers.

Does it have the Locking rear differential? Definite want to have for off road use.

Timing belt was last done when? I'm pretty sure it's an interference engine and a belt failure would be an expensive repair. Should also have replaced the water pump and belt tensioner when this was done as well as the timing belt pulleys.

Does it smoke after a cold start or when you first rev it after letting it idle for a while? (Valve Guide Seals $$ or the Valves $$$ will need to be replaced)

Does 4WD engage/disengage cleanly? If so then you're golden. If not it could simply be a sticking actuator that would need to be cycled so that it starts to work properly or a bad one that would need to be replaced.

Does the ABS work properly (not lights in the dash)?

Do all the dash lights come on when you turn the key to the on position without starting the engine? If not, there could be problems you don't know exist because the warning light wont work.

Questions that are less important as far as I'm concerned...
What's the condition of the driver's seat upholstery? it's usually the first to go since it gets the most use.

Do all the doors (little ones like the gas door too) work?

Are all the tools in the tool kit in the rear door?

HTH.

Not really here
Dont forget about the cam and crank seals when you do the timing belt as well. Check that all the aux outlets work as well. I think off-roader covered most of it.
