Modifying an MV-50 tire inflator

Tried searching for this and didn't find anything here. Can someone recommend a thread or video that shows how to improve an MV-50 12V air compressor. I've found a few on you-tube but necessarily trust the information found there.

Thanks, jim

P.S. I started a new thread instead of cluttering up the 'inexpensive 12V tire inflator' thread to make it easier for others to find.

Don't just restrict your searches to the MV 50 also try the 1050 and "Masterflow"... Went through this a year ago (looked but I no longer have the links);
As I recall the above Toyota link was one of the better ones.
...many folks seem to think open hose air flow is very important; apparently never realizing that to inflate a tire you have to go through the Schrader valve which is a huge restriction (enough to heat up the, also restrictive, screw on air chuck).

Enjoy!

One of the improvements can be to the electrical wiring. Replace it with a heavier gauge to reduce voltage drop, add better battery clamps and clean up the fuse wiring under the switch cover.

10ga cord upgrade made the single biggest difference on mine. Not sure I'd bother cleaning up the head casting again, but that was more to ensure it was assembled correctly (it was).

I'd break it down and chemically strip that thick paint off of the cooling fins.

That raises a good point. The cylinder sleeve is a loose fit in the outer finned body, with an air gap between them in most places. Seems like a good way to over heat the plastic piston ring.. stripping the paint and ensuring good thermal conductivity between the finned body and the sleeve could promote longevity through better cooling.

In the interest of preserving the air filter threads, through multiple install/remove cycles (necessary when stored in this ammo can) an O-ring was installed, to improve the seal when loosely tightened..
I second the observation that the space between the cylinder and the finned body needs to be filled with a highly thermally conductive spacer/material.

Enjoy!
