Montero exterior plastic trim removal

Hope you'll post a thread about this process, as it's something that I'm interested in doing, too.

As for the plastic, it's just a matter of getting an edge lifted up and then peeling it away. The perimeter of each piece is attached to the car by 3M trim adhesive tape; it's tough, but not hard to peel away if you're careful. The body of each section is held by the usual plastic body clips...they'll yield if you pull, leaving little holes that will need to be welded closed. This process is really easy, although considerably less so if you're hoping to preserve the plastic.

OK, So I pondered this all night and most of the morning.... while waiting on the AC repair man. Then I decided to go down to Harbor Fright. Found a set of nylon reinforced trim removal pry bars for $7. Figured what the heck.

Went out and found that these three were the necessary bits to get the plastic off.

The one on the right gets behind the trim and you can start separating the tape, then you come behind it with the middle one with its forked end to pry the trim a little further. The long one you then use to wedge behind the clips and pop it out. So far no broken bits.

Only a few more pieces to go...

Looking good. Also wondering what color youre gonna paint it...

Harbor Freight is great for things like nitrile gloves, trail tools that you find yourself always loosing like metric/SAE sockets, screw drivers, etc. but nearly all my ratcheting tools are Craftsman due to the warranty.

I was hoping to paint my Monty this summer also before classes start up late August, but with a camping trip next week, and another week up in the Sierra Nevada's late August the week before school starts for archery deer season, I don't know if I'll have the time or money....so until I figure that out, I'll live vicariously through you ;). Looking good do far :)
