Montero SR coolant/antifreeze?

Hello all,

About to flush out my radiator on my Montero. The Chilton manual recommends antifreeze with "ethylene glycol." I went over to wally world on a lunch break and found that most of the antifreeze they carry contains that (along with other ingredients). What do you guys recommend for antifreeze? Should I buy pre mixed?

Are you just flushing the radiator or the whole system? I would recommend using pre-mix, it keeps the balance better if it were off, with just a flush a radiator. Every Coolant product has ethylene glycol that is what makes it work. Simply put it is alcohol sugar helps raise the boiling point and lower the freezing point of the liquid, vs just plain water.

Most but not all are Ethylene Glycol based. Some are Propylene Glycol based which is safer for pets. Amsoil, & Sierra for example are PG based coolants.

Oh I did not know that, I just thought they used the bittering agent.

Your right. Other brands have started using a bittering agent as well but as you know those are still EG based coolants.
