Well doesn't that just seal the deal. I really expected it to be a JK Diesel announcement. This totally changes the ballgame. I am really looking forward to this one!

Yeah, but you could make it in your garage for a third or what is now becoming a fourth of the price and it's a WHOLE LOT greener for us which is only appropriate considering that since we're all on this forum, then we're all a bit of a tree-huggin' hippy to some degree. I like it. I'll look into this for the WJ, but I've gotta feelin it's gonna be a lil underpowered.

I already have the Diesel Cherokee :coffee: shame they are not looking at putting the 3.0 CRD in this kit. I guess they have a back log of all those overseas 2.8 models which may not have meet the expected sales.

But on the good side there are one or two kits after market for the 2.8.

I had a diesel Liberty and it was anything except underpowered.

As far as smog regs, I would think this kit would legally be limited to vehicles made on or before Dec 31, 2006. The diesel Liberty was killed because the engine could not meet the more stringent emission regs in effect on Jan 1, 2007.

I would love to get a 2005-2006 Rubicon and drop the 2.8 in it! There were a few model year 07's made in 2006...this may be interesting!

This is extremely good news. Hopefully this will become a reality at a not too high a price tag.

Even if I could get 20mpg I'd be really happy.

I just received the latest issue of Diesel Power magazine. In the news section, there is a blurb on it. It reads:

Diesel Jeep Swap Package? Rumor has it that Mopar Performance is working on a diesel engine swap kit for '97 to '06 Jeep Wranglers. If it's true, we expect the details to be released at this year's Moab Easter Jeep Safari. Our guess is that the kit will be based on the 2.8L VM Motori four-cylinder diesel that was offered in the Jeep Liberty. If successful, the 2.8L crate engine may lead Mopar to offer other diesel engines (did somebody say Cummins?) for larger vehicles in the future.

This is exciting news! I'm dreamin' of a Rubicon Unlimited with a manual tranny. In '05 or '06 was the manual a 5 spd or 6 spd?

I will be looking for it at Moab and will take pictures if I find it.

I'm trying to track down the price of the CRD direct from Germany ..... course with exchange rates it limits viable sources

great stuff, i don't see why that wouldn't fit in a JK??
