I'm trying to track down the price of the CRD direct from Germany ..... course with exchange rates it limits viable sources

great stuff, i don't see why that wouldn't fit in a JK??

It would fit in a JK, but the immissions standards for 07 vehicles are too high for that engine.

so i can't get it inspected? I can live with that!

my daily driver right now has not been inspected in 3 years lol i like to live on the edge :p got my first ticket though this summer, i just don't want to pull the ECU until its warm out lol:victory:

With any luck it'll fit the XJ/MJ platform and I can pull out my supercharger

negative on the JK, they can't get the other systems to work with the engine on the JK

bummer - i got a quote on a 300tdi used for $10K

More information has come out on the AEV forums:

"The Mopar program is trying to use the T1 (military TJ) parts primarily. One of the biggest performance differences between that version and the liberty is the non-variable turbo. I haven't driven a T1, but I understand they do pretty well. The T1 version is WAY simpler, no EGR, no variable turbo, no Viscous coolant heater, no AC (I don't know what Mopar has planned for that), no cruise control, etc...It has about 1/10 the amount of wiring, and would be a great motor to have in a Jeep."

My wife loves the AC so I'd need to get that in there somehow. I don't hate the AC, but can't admit to it. :)

The JK in Europe uses the 2.8 CRD with 177hp/3800 and 41Nm/2000 (it's the new 2.8 CRD for the 2008 Liberty again from VMotori)
So the parts are available. The only problem is the US emission restriction

that is built in the USA by the way - which means the engines and parts are here - I wonder how to get one of those engines without buying a wrecked or used liberty???????

any help?

The 2.8 CRD would pass 45 state emissions or better, its just a few states that are keeping these motors out of the US. The other fact is that Diesel costs more than gas now in the USA, this is ridiculous IMOO. The excuse that the low sulfur diesel requirement is making this happen is poopycock! In 90+% of European countries this isn't the same...and they have stricter fuel standards than we do. Its true that diesel still costs more per gallon in Europe, but the ratio of gas vs diesel prices is still backwards.

I'm glad that diesel engines have so many alternative fuel options. I'm about to go gorilla and just start making my own fuel. There are a LOT of options out there for someone that wants to put in a little extra work ( and with fuel near $4 a gallon its worth my time! ) and make or grow there own fuel. Big oil is making me angry. Fuel prices keep going up along with barrel prices....but they keep having RECORD profits every quarter! Ok....trying not to rant.....rant mode off.......think calming thoughts......
