Motrola Saber SVA install question

I am currently doing a weekend only install of a Motorola Saber and Yaesu 8900. This weekend I have finally mounted both units where I wanted them. Now, I have to wire every thing up. The Yaesu is simple, hook it up directly to the battery

I have an 87 K5, I am in the process of wiring a Motorola Saber SVA/ Convertacom in the truck. It has four wires red, black, green, yellow.

I obviously know where the red and black go. But the instructions say the yellow wire goes to the "vehicle ignition (circuit)" and the green wire goes to the "vehicle headlights (circuit)"

Anyone have any idea where these two "circuit" are?

Why does it require a wire to the headlights?

Also, the radio powers up fine when the black/ red are wired to a power source. Any idea what the purpose of the yellow and green?

I'll post some finished pics later this week/ weekend.

Any feedback is appreciated.

A lot of commercial radio will interface with the ignition and will turn radio functions on/off with the ignition key. On the SVA/MVA the ignition control the charger status. The headlights turns on the panel lights..
Not sure how there handling charger on that one it might be off powered by 12v when running and then trickle charged when vehicle is off.

You can play with it by connecting the yellow to ground looking to see if the charge LED comes on or off then connect to 12v and looking. Same can be said for the headlight sense.

Depending on how you want to use the radio you can just hardwire them to 12v or ground or connect them to the sense circuits. The headlights go to the ignition switch wire that provides 12v when the key is turned. The headlight can be picked up behind the headlight switch.

Here is a nice saber manual

Thanks for the help Gary. I think I'll try to not even use the yellow and green. When I hooked up the red and black, I had lights and power. I would just have to remember to turn the radio off to not drain the battery. Easy enough.

Great link by the way. The best source of info on the Sabers yet.
