Mountain biking El Camino Del Diablo.

I've known about the route for a long time, but it wasn't until the idea of biking it came to mind that I really wanted to go and do it. It's sandy at times and a *****, but it's fun on a bike. Well worth doing in my opinion!

The pics, video and words are up on my blog:

great write up Tim
Having done the Camino myself a few times I am impressed on many levels that you did it on a bike.
I am sure you really got the sense of isolation and enjoyed the desert more intensely than from a vehicle.
Wow dude another killer trip report, thanks for letting us come along for the ride

I enjoyed the trip report. Thanks for sharing! Just out of curiosity would you choose the same bike if you were to do it again. Single speed and no suspension. I like the simplicity and have been intrigued by the Surly Pugsley. With that said I think I am fooling myself if I was to go to a Pugsley as my only bike living in San Diego. Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks

Thanks Lance! Sometimes when I don't feel like putting the time into another report I remember that you might need something to read after a late night shift!! :sombrero:

Yes, I would. I think the simplicity and the fact that a SS keeps it simple made it work great. I almost had a Surly Pugsly for the ride, but tubes didn't arrive in time.
The only time I regretted my decision was at the very end of the ride. I was tired and the rhythm bumps on the road were so big that the second I got up to normal riding speed I'd get shaken to pieces.
I think a Pug would be a fine bike to have. When the tires are pumped up the rolling resistance doesn't seem to be too bad. When it's aired down it's as cushey as a limited travel full suspension!
As long as you're not obsessed with efficiency, go pug!!

Fantastic! I'd say you're ready to join the ranks of solo Pueblo riders, eh?
Thanks senor! I've got my Solo SS Pueblo slot for this year! You doing it again I assume? It will be a pleasure to ride with you if so!
