Mounting a Powertank in a D2 SE7

I'm seriously considering removing the seats to help in this regard, but I've got a 15 pound powertank, and the mount, but I can't think of a secure place to mount it. I'd like to run it to a manifold and upgrade to ARB from TTs, so I need a mounting point that is secure in case of an accident, yet accessible for removing to fill or when swapping to another truck. Can anyone recommend a good secure location with and/or without the rear jump seats removed?

If anyone has any tips or caveats WRT removing the rear seats, that would also be helpful.

Seats are easy to remove. Just two bolts under the plastic finishing piece. I mounted a tank to the passenger side cavity where the seat used to be. If you have rear air the driver's side would block the loading area (similar to the seat itself when folded).

I would just remove one or both of the seats depending on your needs. On either side, your preference, there are sweet spots for mounting a tank.

I took off the tan molding and put 4 riv-nuts directly into the steel behind the panel. Then just bolted the tank mount in. Voila!

I don't have rear AC so I think I'm good. I have a 15# tank and probably should have gotten a 10 pound tank I guess. I didn't realize until I received it how big it is. Much bigger than the one in your picture. Is there something behind there strong enough to secure that tank in a roll over or accident?

I like your organizer BTW. I have to buy or build something like that. :coffeedrink: How did you mount it to your truck, holes through the floor?

There is 1/8-ish plate behind the panel you can mount to.

My organizer is very basic. I actually think it kinda sucks. The bottom right stores three chairs perfectly the the left has my tool bag and recovery gear bag. It's nothing special which is kinda what I wanted. The top has the fridge slide and the right has tie downs for 1650 pelican's.

Yes, I mounted it through the floor with 3/16 backing plates on the underside. It works.

I like your setup also with the storage area. It's basic as you said but sometimes that's all that's needed. Now you can modify as you see fit. Sometimes one never knows exactly what they NEED until they start somewhere.

I like it too. It doesn't look that hard to make, but looks like it would work well. I see the lid opens right up to pack it instead of having to slide it in, and then the rear door keeps the contents inside. Genius. Is it bolted through the floor?

On my D2, when you pull off the whole plastic trim piece you will see the jumpseat bracket, if you mount to this you really can only get 4 bolts to line up with the bracket enough to mount the bracket. I am overkill but I had a piece of aluminum and cut it to fit and mounted it to fill up the gap in the seat bracket ( you will see what I mean if you take off the trim ) and then put the plastic trim back on and drilled holes for the PT bracket and finished mounting it up, using the aluminum plate as sort of a backing plate.

This still isn't a bad location for the PT if you want to run lockers, just drill a hole in the floor and seal it up where you need to.

Here is a picture from my truck its a 15#...
