Mounting stock jeep rubicon wheels on my trailer hubs

5x5 to 5x5 1.75 inch spacer/adapter worked on my toro flex.

I bought mine off ebay. Might have just got lucky. I then had to cut the fenders off to accommodate the larger tires.

I, like many, would like to use JK wheels and tires on my trailer to match the Jeep. I have seen in multiple threads / converstations that the trailer hub diameter is too big for the JK rims. According to etrailers help the outer diameter of the center bore on the Dexter hub and drum 5x5 (#84556UC3) is 2.67"

http://www.etrailer.com/question-66798.html

The center bore on a stock JK wheel is 71.5mm = 2 13/16" = 2.8125" (based on multiple sources)

Now I didn't go to math school, but I'm pretter sure 2.8125" is greater than 2.67". Seems to me that the stock rim should fit. Am I missing something???

The JK Rubicon type wheels have a center hole of just under 2.5". Sorry for the bad pictures.

The trailer hubs are just over 2.5" (probably 2.67" as eTrailer states).

If anyone needs adapters checkout: Adaptit.com. They make the spacers you need to fit JK wheels to your Dexter trailer hubs. My adapters cost $144 and are 1.8" thick. They have the 5"x5" wheel pattern and the correct 1/2-20 wheel studs. My Jeep uses 1.25" TeraFlex adapters. My trailer has the Timbren suspension and the track width will match the Jeep.

Hope this helps!

Doesn't make sense that so many sources indicate hub bore is 71.5, but pictures don't lie. I got a good deal on some spydertrax adapters (thanks again craig's list), so now I guess I'll look into either having them machined or trying to find a trailer hub with a smaller diameter center. Thanks for the pics SamM.

The good news on all of this is that I am now sure that I will have to use spacers, and since I am using spacers I might as well use an adapter/spacer rather than changing my hubs out just to get the right bolt pattern. The hubs are old but have seen very little use, so I hate to change them. Addaptitusa definitely seems like the place to get the spacers I need.

SamM, thank you for the great pictures!

You're very welcome. Just trying to help someone avoid all the trouble that I went through. Started out with 1.5" adapters from Rugged Ridge. They were too wide for my Jeep and did not work with my trailer hubs. I ended up giving them to a young man down the road. He's just a starting out life with a new wife and doesn't have a lot of money to put into his Jeep. Thought, I would help. He appreciated it. Anyway, the 1.25" TeraFlex adapters work much better on the Jeep. The wheels and tires don't stick out as far and I like the look better. You wouldn't think a 1/4" would matter but it does. I might have them machined down to 1" before I'm done. Someone here on the board told me about the Adapt It adapters and I just wanted to pass that along. Them seem to be well worth the $144 that I paid.

I just checked with rough country and the inner diameter of their 1.5" 5x5 spacers is 2.31" so those are a no-go. I have not been able to find a 5x5 trailer hub with a smaller diameter either. Seems there's no way around the custom adapters with stock rims. Maybe new rims for jeep and trailer???? ;)

Adapters or spacers are definitely cheaper than all new wheels. But I also noticed that most larger tires (315s and 35s for example) require at least an 8.5" wide wheel. The stock Rubicon wheels are 8" so I am looking at going with new rims (if I decide to go that big). The trailer has 315s, so if I run a JK style wheel on the trailer, I am going to need a wider wheel. Since I like Pintlers, they have basically the same diameter bore as the stock rims, so I'm into spacers either way.

I know this an old thread, but since I found it while searching I figure others are still searching for this info and finding this too. I've been looking for a way to put JK wheels on a HF trailer and just found these from an EBay store... 2" thick, 71mm (2.815") center bore, non-hubcentric, and CHEAP!!!! $50 with free shipping! Being a machinist I was originally thinking about boring out the center hole on the JK wheel to fit over the trailer hub but someone made a great point about possibly compromising the strength of the wheel when you put it back on your Jeep...I see no reason these wouldn't work???? I'm probably gonna order these soon. I have two extra JK wheels (for my WJ) . Then buy the trailer and start building it into an affordable light duty offroad trailer. It'll never see a RTT, I just want it to carry gear when me, my GF, our two dogs, and my two kids are in the Jeep!
