Mustang Island June 22nd

I am posting under our Nissan forum here but all trucks are more than welcome!!! I do not really consider it an adventure so will not post as such.

Hey Guys and Gals... The LSJC jeepers have invited my other club TNT members on their run to Mustang Island near Port Aransus, TX for 4X4 beach clean-up and camping fun. It's a weekend and not a club event. Will be family oriented.

They are leaving on Thur June 21st but we are not leaving until the 22nd.

We have a few confirmed Nissans if the Jeepers get overbearing :gunt:

Some of us also want to see how far we can really go towards South Padre... on the beach it's said to be 26 miles... that means we would have our camp area very remote.

Post or email me and I will keep you info'd.

That's one area I'd love to explore. Very remote and beautiful beach. Care to post up your GPS tracks?

Scott,

Here are some basic waypoints for the trip and some photographs. There’s 65 miles of seashore and only one way in/out. You have to stay between the dunes and the ocean. The beach changes from time to time based on the weather, time of year, and elevation of the tide. Apparently we went during the time when there’s the most seaweed; however, after we got down past 25-30 miles, not only was the water more clear and beautiful, there wasn’t any seaweed. The pictures here were taken around mile 15 where we set up base camp.

Here’s a link to the park: http://www.nps.gov/pais

Cheers,

Tony

That is so awesome. There are so few off-highway recreation areas in TX, but that is top-notch. If all people know about the TX beach is Galveston, it's hard to explain the beauty in that area. We were in the area last Holidays. I really need an excuse to drive that far and experience it, take a week, and simply beach it.

I'm sure I'll plan another trip down there at some point...maybe this fall or next spring. I'll post it up and we can plan from there.

So how was the weather?

Weather really changed dramatically very quickly. The shots I have where it's sunny were taken about 2 hours after we had 30+ mph winds and it was raining sideways. But, as you can see, it cleared up and we had really great weather that evening. Next day, drove 8 hours home in the rain.
