My 2013 In Pictures

As 2013 slips into the past I'd like to take a minute to remember what great year it was. At the closing of each year I reminiscence about the experiences I have been fortunate to have and more importantly the great friends and family I have been able to share them with. I'd love to have the hand that could spell the right worlds to do justice to these rich experiences but I've found that a single picture often tells as far better story. With that said I give you 'My 2013 in Pictures', chronologically ordered:

Exploring Panama For the Holidays

Special thanks to all those I shared adventures with this last year, hoping we can do it again in 2014. Lastly, thanks for any photos I borrowed, I've collected them throughout the year and tired to credit them when not mine, if you see one that belongs to you and want credit, lmk.

Great idea for a thread Kurt, looks like you had a pretty busy year in 2013.

JANUARY had us getting flooded in at my sister inlaws property in Gympie for a few days.....
THE ROAD OUT OF WHERE THEY LIVE....

FEBRUARY had myself and some friends driving about 400 klms North for the weekend, to help clean up a friends parents house that was flooded by the same rains that flooded us in at the sister inlaws property a few weeks earlier.....
THIS WAS A HOUSE IN THE SAME STREET WE WERE CLEANING UP IN (friends parents house sustained damage nothing like this thankfully, but house next door and many others were demolished).......

MARCH had us heading away camping with our 4wd club at the end of the month......
MICRO BATS AT MUNTAPA RAILWAY TUNNEL

APRIL we stayed at a caravan park in NSW for the weekend, the kids loved the place.......
LOCAL SCOOTER GANG THAT ROAMED THE PARK...LOL.....

and also camped at Jondaryon for a few days on the banks of Oakey Creek
OUR CAMP SPOT...............

INSIDE THE OLD SHEARING SHED...............

MAY we rented a house for the weekend on North Stradbroke Island with some mates....
SUNSET VIEW FROM THE VERANDAH.......

A BIT OF WHEELING ON THAT WEEKEND ALSO....

JUNE...at the end of the month we took a 2 week holiday out to the Central Australian town of Birdsville....
TOURING OUTBACK AUSTRALIA.....

JULY...we were still on holidays at the start of the month
CADELGA HOMESTEAD RUINS.....

AUGUST i don't think we did much in, hard at work after taking a 2 week holiday the months before i'd guess

SEPTEMBER we went camping for a National Meet Up of people from a camper trailer forum that i frequent.....
MY KIDS GETTING INTO THE CAMPING SPIRIT.......

A DAY TRIP A MATE AND OURSELVES DID ON THAT TRIP......

we also did our annual Bravehearts drive called Highway Thunder, it raises money for a foundation that deals with abused kids.
HIGHWAY THUNDER.......

OCTOBER we had a large carpet snake call our front yard home for a few weeks, it'd come and go as it pleased...lol
OUR NEW LODGER.....

NOVEMBER at the end of the month we had our 4wd clubs Xmas party and went away camping.....
OUR CAMPER TRAILER IN XMAS LIGHTS.....

DECEMBER we went camping over Xmas / New Year with our 4wd club, headed to Ballina NSW (180klms away) and pretty much relaxed on the beach the whole time....
SOUTH BALLINA BEACH........

SOUTH BALLINA BEACH...

Is Ballina Beach open to 4x4 driving? How far north or south can you go? Fraser Island like experience or just fun beach driving?

i'm not sure of the exact names of each beach you can drive on, but we were at South Ballina where we were driving. you need to cross the river from Ballina on the Burns Point Ferry, then you take a sharp left turn a hundred or 200 mtrs up the road and follow it to the second caravan park you come too. at that 2nd caravan park is an entry point onto the beach, when you drive onto the beach you can only head South (turn right) from there, you're not allowed to head North towards the river rock wall..... from there you drive all the way down to Evans Head but you need lowtide to get around the rocks about halfway down the beach, so it's a pretty decent drive. unlike Fraser it's not 80kph speed limit though, it's something painfully slow like 40kph and even slower again around migratory birds and people etc i think from memory (it's a long slow drive at 40kph all the way down the beach).
you can also drive on the beach a touch further North with 4WD vehicle access to Seven Mile Beach, north of the Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Facility apparently i have read, though you need a permit to traverse that area, unlike South Ballina which has no permits required for access.

Fantastic, thanks for the intel. My wife and I are chatting about a return trip to Australia in 2015'ish and we are identifying places we would like to visit. Thanks again!

couple of places in that general area to visit (give or take several hundred klms...lol)....The Waterfall Way around Dorrigo, and then be sure to drive and camp on The Old Grafton - Glen Innes Rd whilst in that general area. Also if you haven't been to Bald Rock and Girraween National Parks, go there on climb both Bald Rock and The Pyramid at each respecting place...the views from a top the climbs are well worth the workouts.

When did you find time to work? LOL! 2013 was a good year...

That is a good question, truth is I feel like I did plenty of work too.
(Course here it it is after 10PM and I'm still here in my office doing paperwork and purchase orders )

I burn the candle at both ends I suppose :D
