My Expedition Trailer upgrade

I have owned my trailer for over 30 years, I bought it from my neighbor to use as a motorcycle trailer. It has been dragged around many states hauling dirt bikes.

Yellow fenders to match Suzuki, Me in the yellow jersey(1979ish)

It has hauled dirt, rock and what ever else any one wanted to haul in it.

I built a plywood box 4X4X6 and hauled Boy Scout camp equipment for several years.(1999ish)

I have replaced the wood twice, third set of tires and broke a spring from the original Ford straight axle. And since it is a Ford straight axle when I started pulling it behind my Jeep and extra set of Jeep wheels bolt right on. Not a bad trailer for 50 bucks.:victory:

I made the cover a couple of years ago but he problem is my cooler and cook box and some other stuff are to tall to fit inside. so it needs to be taller for my Colorado Adventure this summer. 2010

Frame tack welded

The frame is very light so far. My friend Kevin is going to help with the welding tomorrow. I have a 24 gauge galvanized 4X6' sheet metal to go on top to keep tarp from sagging. I have to build tailgate. Canvas top to be made Tuesday
I do realize the tires are close to fenders, when I broke original spring we replaced with local bought trailer springs which turned out to be 3500 lb springs, so no matter what I put in this trailer the tires wont hit the fenders. I would like to know if I can pull a spring or 2 to soften it up and then I want to give it a lift for better clearance, but that will have to wait till after this trip.

I still have a multipurpose trailer.

I like it man, have you thought of replacing the wood on the sides with diamond tread?

I have been thinking about pulling out the treated plywood and putting a thin layer of sheet metal in front of plywood to make the trailer look like metal and I could paint the hole thing.
I will be doing this on the tailgate when I build it. I kind of like the tread metal idea, thanks.

I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but please, PLEASE be careful welding that conduit. It's hazardous.

In case you are unaware, see here:

Ditto. I've been there, it's not nice. I'd recommend welding outside with a box fan blowing from the side.

Great looking trailer, and the history of it :D While you are reworking it, I'd put a flat area between the fenders and the side brace at the front. It'd be a great place for a couple of gas cans or other storage. Maybe put a flat area from the rear of the fenders to the rear taillights too.

Regards,
