My new 1998 Montero (need a nickname for her...maybe "Goldy") parked in the foreground of the mountains she is waiting to explore. Just picked her up from a friend who bought her new (I helped bring her home from the dealer). The engine was just replaced; most everything is stock and works (apart from 31 inch tires and Driver side Sun-visor, Anyone got one they want to sell?).
I have been perusing the Forum and have enjoyed reading over the build threads of several of you with similar rigs. There was some great work done and perfect for ideas that I plan to add to my Monty in due course.
First step is new tires and Suspension. Suggestions welcome and appreciated!!
Goal for the Monty: Turn her into a great road trip truck for adventure on/off-road trips (Utah has a lot of everything) but using her to get there and get the kids/groceries on a daily basis.
Tires:
--It has 31inch tires on standard rims now. I think the look it good and the size is not bad. However, anyone have some good reasons to go bigger with new wheel/tire combo?
--If I keep standard wheel will have them powder coated black (saw someone else do this and liked it).
Suspension:
--First step is to replace shocks and springs. Goal: Provide a good on-road ride and limit body roll but also have ability to perform off-road
----ARB OME is a thought but was wondering if it is more off-road orientated and would not provide a limit body roll
----Local shop recommended combining Bilstein shocks with ARB OME Springs.
Any thoughts suggestions would be great.
