My Trailer Project

I'm new to the site and thought I'd show the infancy of my project. My project is based on a TJ tub and will be towed with my 05 LJ. Basic plan is to build the tub and cap to have a RTT with a canoe rack above that. Water tank, solar power, LP tanks and as much storage as I can without tipping the scales too bad.

I am very open to suggestion, especially with the solar power system. I want to be able to keep two deep cycle batteries charged as well as run LED lighting, water pump and an inverter for computer, phone and camera charging and have surplus power.

I will post some pics as I take them. Right now it's just a tub with no front axle. Pretty basic to start.

As most RTTs swing up and over to open, you may find it difficult to adequately support the canoe above the tent. Most tent/boat combos I've seen have the boat below the tent rack, sitting on the trailer (no rack). Most tents appear to be about 6'-7' above the ground to accommodate an annex room. Also, if the canoe is below, the tent can be opened without having to remove the canoe.

If you don't have the TJ tub yet, check out Dinoot.com for their jeep trailer. It's a fiberglass tub that can fit to a harbor freight or homemade/purchased frame.

I wish you the best with this effort.

Or even if you do already have a TJ tub you should still check out Dinoot.com, you might find their fiberglass tub front panel very helpful when you cut the front off your TJ tub...

Here's an example. This one doesn't have a canoe under the tent, but it could.

Here are the promised pictures of the beginning. I will post progress pics as I make progress which is a snails pace to start with.

Thanks for the ideas! Didn't think about the boat being under the tent.... Gotta think on that one a bit. Are any of you using solar panels for power or charging? Please post pictures and or schematics of how and what you are running.

Thanks again!
