My weekend trip

You don't see this every day... This was a little trip I just got back from. It was more or less a "combat biathlon" - running 6 miles across the desert and shooting stuff, but it was 3 days 50 miles from the pavement and the head honcho is a Land Rover fanatic. Not exactly an "expedition", but pretty cool so I thought I'd share a few pics.

Nice. Looks like a fun time, but don't think I would want to run around the desert with no clothes on (the vehicles are wearing them), might burn:yikes: :hehe: :hehe:

I didn't run this year since my allergies were really kicking my butt and I was having trouble breathing just standing still. I was acting as a range officer running one of the shooting stages, so I was too busy to take any pics of the shootin'.

Maximus Ram - funny you mentioned running through the brush & cactus with no clothes on.... We had one competitor (the event organizer's brother) who paints boats for a living down at the coast. He's about as brown as a gringo can get, has hair that looks about like an old mop, and big bushy "hippie" beard. Pretty much looks like he just walked out of the Woodstock video. Anyway, he ran the whole thing in nothing but FLIP-FLOPS and some kind of Hawaiian wrap-around surfer skirt, with a small canvas bag over one shoulder for his M-14 magazines and water, and his M-14 slung over the other shoulder. That dude is TOUGH!!!

I really wish I had gotten a picture of that! Pretty much flies in the face of most of the anti-gun stereotypes you can think of. Pretty interesting folks you meet that are willing to test/abuse themselves this way every year. :violent-smiley-031:

Oh yeah, the reason all the clothes are hanging everywhere is because it rained about 2-3 inches during the first 3-4 hours of the race, so the competitors who were running then got soaked. I, however, was standing under a nice semi-dry awning. ;)

Have I mentioned yet today how good your FJ80 looks? haha Seriously that is my favorite 80 series on the boards. Absoutely love it and someday when I have to repaint mine, I want to do something similar. That is waaaaay down the road though.

Thanks for the compliment, upcruiser! Yeah, she's starting to grow on me. Those old Rovers are pretty cool, though... I'm debating whether to put a Series II "88" or an FJ40 or FJ45 on my "someday" list.

sigh.

so many toys, so little time.
