Finally got my Lightweight back from the shop after some head gasket repairs (I'll spare you the details) and decided it was time to replace the 5 year old Optima Red Top and get started on my dual battery install using the National Luna system.
Today I was able to modify the existing metal battery tray to accept the dual battery Optima cage I bought a while back from Ruffstuff Specialties - here's the link: http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/optima-battery-lengthwise-p-307.html. The dual battery cage fit perfectly and secured inside are a brand new Red Top and Yellow Top. The batteries fit the cage perfectly and the cage fits the Lightweight perfectly - all by accident of course!
I'm well aware of the Optima reliability issues, but having gotten 5 years out of my Red Top and given the 3 year warranty from Advance Auto, I decided to go for it again. The yellow top in my trailer has also been very reliable. Please deflect any Optima debates to other threads on ExPo.
Still to do is to install the National Luna wiring - I expect that to be fairly easy and will report back and post more pictures.
Here's what I've done so far... there are positive cables coming off of the red top, but that's until I finish wiring everything to the National Luna and the Blue Sea fuseblock at the top.
