Anyone using these nato cans?
nato 20L jerry cans

I have two and i am trying to figure out how to store them on my jeep tj which has a stock bumper/tire carrier with a 31 spare on the back saftely so that they dont end up on he highway or river.

Any leads to an existing mount or ideas for a safe fabbed rig?

Thanks for that link, I found some interesting stuff, im still trying to find the right balance for storing two cans off the back tire. Like all of us, Ill go over it 1000 times before I pull the trigger trying to figure out what works best. It's a serious dilemma!

I got the cans in the mail today and here are two pictures:

Have you thought about one of them costly swingout bumpers that has the can mounts. Orfab has a swingout jerrycan tire holder that mounts to the body. about $600 though.
If the back seat isnt used maybe on top of the rear wheeelwells or something. I'm not that crazy about fuel inside the passenger compartment myself.
I'm in the process of building a tire holder that goes in the receiver hitch then mount 2 cans on the tailgate of my TJ.

Mount one can and a jack. Maybe i can get both cans there?

Right now im close to using those mounts you just linked at quadrtec ( thanks for link!) or similar ones to bolt inside of jeep.over the wheel wells, but i plan to sleep in the flatbed and have a cover over the flatbed, so thats worrysome too being close to the gas, and i fear being rear ended with gas cans even tho i plan to only have them filled in the back country and not on the highway per se and not sure im read to pick a rear bumper. I like keeping the wheelbasr and balance of the jeep short for my type of adventures.

came across this, Warrior Products Adventure Rack, mounts a baggage rack above the tire and has two gas can mounts on the side.

For the Nato can you'd probably need to attach something like this

to the Warrior Products rack.

If you plan on sleeping in the back of the Jeep just set the cans outside for the night.

Or buy a trailer. :)

So here is what I got. I got the smittybuilt I-rack, picked it up for $70 free shipping from amazon. Installed it last night, majorly heavy , and probably have to be careful with this thing offroad with full gas cans on the stock door/.

I have to call them today because I am not quite able yet to get a good hold on the Nato jerry can quite yet with it.

Just as an update, it only works with yucky bltz cans. Nutz. Now i have to find a way to mount two nato cans to this monstrosity

So it looks like you might have to have someone local to you weld up a bottom plate to hold the fuel can(s) to the backplate. The orig. setup you illustrated doesn't look too durable anyway... You could have the bottom plate(s) painted blk. wrinkle to match - just a thought.

I agree you need to consider the leverage that much weight will place on the door mount plus you might consider just one can on that mount in anticipation of that issue. Design a mount for the tank that also can be locked across the can opening so no one can easily siphon your fuel. (The EE examples shown earlier have that feature - you could use that example as a pattern).

Otherwise though it looks to be a good product (too bad it is designed just for the Blitz cans...)

Good Luck!
