Scott,

I ran the Rancho 9000's for 4 years and they where alright. The adjustibility was fun for the first couple months, but then I never played with them again for 5 years. I recently replaced them with OME long travel shocks. I am impressed so far. The price was around 70 each corner. I dont think it really matters which one first, but I would probibly do the front.

Thanks Scott. Weird when u say that online its like your talking to your self. lol

Haven't tried them yet, but I am going to give the Rancho RSX shocks a shot this summer for the XJ. I am running a 4.5" lift and the junk shock that cam ewith it are ,well, junk.
For the Dodge I think I will try the 9000's , since it weighs more and i would like to see how the ride is will towing the trailer.

front first, it oscillates more.

no rancho branded product should ever be on a jeep.

Scott,

I echo Scott's experience with Rancho 9000's. Never did ride great, and if your in an area that salts the adjustment screws tend to freeze requiring removal and cleaning every spring. Still have them on the rear axle (9010) but went with Bilstein 5150's up front and love them.

Maybe opt for the 5100's, that should put you in your price range.

Rancho stuff tends to be way to stiff for a lightweight vehicle like a Jeep (springs or dampers).

The only caveat is their adjustable stuff.

yup. theyre for fullsizes. theyre the norm for 'big ole lifted truckz,' a jeep is way too light for em, and better shocks exist for any application that rancho makes a shock for.

I had a pair of RSX's on the back of my TJ for a while. The performed fairly well, until I started putting the RTT up top...at which time they didn't perform so well anymore. A few trips with a heavy load and they were toast..

BDC, have you gotten new shocks ? wondering what you went with.
I have started to look at the Bilstein 5100 for my XJ. Just need something that will help improve the ride of the 4.5 " lift and 31's.

So ,I've looked at Bilstein and OME. They run about the same $$. Between the 2, which one and why?
Really need some better shocks on the ol XJ:safari-rig:

Bilstein 5150 255/70 valve. OME's are soft and cushy if thats your taste, but I prefer the control the bilsteins give with the firmer valving.
