Need help w/ 98 Sport rear locker into 95 LS

I've been trying to find someone who can answer if this can be done without major conversions, I've got the '95 LS 3.0 limited slip and have located a '98 Sport rear locker differential that has the same gear ratio 4.636 w/51 ring gear and 11 spline. How do I know what size axle it is along with what size is mine? Will this bolt up to my existing axle housing? Are the axles the same on both years? Is the locker controlled by a onboard compressor or were they vacuum activated? I've got a lot of questions here I know and would really appreciate expert advise prior to dishing out the $bread for this locker and then it not fitting.

Are you planning to swap the entire rear differential - Everything between the wheels? Not sure if the Sport full assembly will fit the full size Gen 2 chassis. Pretty sure the 3rd member (center section) won't fit either.

Isn't the '98 Sport a Leaf Sprung unit?

That's what I want to do, I've located this '98 sr with the same gear ratio as mine and wondering will it bolt up?

Sorry. I can't say for sure if the '98 Montero Sport is a 9" or 9.5" but I am pretty sure it is a leaf spring axle. Your '95 is a coil spring axle, wheel to wheel they are not a bolt in swap. Your LS should be a 9" being it is a 3.0L. I am pretty sure the SR 9.5" has 1 axle shaft shorter than the standard "open" differential, not exactly sure about the 9" LSD. I don't know if the Sport is setup this way or not, so they typically don't easily swap. Best bet is to look for a '95 to '96 SR locker - wheel to wheel.

I did a wheel to wheel locker swap from a '95SR to my '92RS. Bolt in.

Is the locker controlled by a onboard compressor

yes

Ok, are you asking about a Sport axle or an SR axle?? And it's apparent you haven't searched before asking because this has all been covered.

You may want to read my question again. I only know of 3 models for the GenII's, ie. RS, LS, and the SR which I believe is known as the sport which is the only one that offered the rear locker option.

Ahhh. Ok it's been confusing. How about if I ask you this, I want to install a rear locker in my 95 LS 3.0 it has disc brakes and I'm told has a 4.636 gear ratio. What is the best way to do this, full axle? Or can you swap in a locking diff? What would you do?

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Full axle from the SR, your truck should have the 9" 28 spline axle and the SR is 9.5" 31 spline.

I already did a few posts above
