Need New Shocks For The Tacoma

Plannerman

Wandering Explorer
I replaced the rear springs earlier this summer with an OME Dakar spring set and my current shocks are a bit too short. My plan was to purchase OME shocks. They're durable and dependable. But, before I do, I have to ask the ExPo community: would Icon shocks greatly put perform he OME shocks? If so, how?

I've installed Bilstein 5100's on my and two other Tacomas and they're great. Really nice ride. Adjustable height. Good warranty. I wished I'd installed them earlier.

Having had both a set of OMEs and now a set of Icons my vote is for Icon. They control the back end of the truck a lot better IMO. Their construction is also top notch and let's face it, they just look cool too ;).

I run Kings up front and 5100s in the back on our Sequoia. The ride is great and they handle our desert trips very well.

Thanks, I was hoping for a first hand comparison of OME vs. Icons. A pair of Icons for the rear will run me about $100 more, which is not much, all things considered.

Icons will be a much better shock. Just a thing to consider but in about 4-5 years they will probably need to be rebuilt. I think it is still cheaper then buying two new shocks.

Yeah, I was thinking about the rebuild thing. However, icon is down the street from my office, so that makes rebuilding a bit easier

And the Icons will pair well with the Dakars (spring rate vs valving, etc)?

Granted I haven't loaded up the bed with enough weight yet to really cycle the Dakars through their travel, but they seem to play nice with each other. The rear end has a firm, controlled feel to it. In the 500 miles since the combo has been on I've been pleased.
