Low blow! The advise he gave could save somebodys life or a lot a grief. It's a China winch with a China rope and the user may hang a vehicle from it. Would this also be a good time to remind you that Masterpull is a paying sponser of this forum and gives great advise and discounts on the best winch ropes made to those like you that participate?

are you also a Master-Pull employee or beneficiary? please show me your info that says Master-Pull products are NOT made in China.

I can not say which I would have if I had to use it every day. I have a Superwinch on my trailer that saw lots of use during my drag racing days. The last decade my trucks have packed a Milemarker.
Other than cleaning and repacking the grease it has had no maintenance. It probably did not need the grease changed, but I felt better checking it out.

It has done more "work" than recoveries:

I picked mine up "new" in box from a friend who needed school money. $400 with a cradle for a Milemarker 9500# winch. money well spent for both my needs and his.
I changed the roller fairlead for an aluminum fairlead and swapped the cable to synthetic rope. Those lighten things up a little.
My experiences have been all positive. I would buy another.

Mine mounts on a hitch mount, so I don't have to pack it all the time on my daily driver.

Think carefully how you will use it. Line speed , amperage, rated pull, warranty, replacement parts, price, weight, etc. All are things to consider. Just how much you will use it? In my case it has been a lucky charm. As long as it is with me, I don't "NEED" it.

Would you like to come by our shop and look at where the bulk ropes come from? I can guarantee you that none of our rope has ever come from China.

There are a few companies in the United States that make ropes for us, as well as one European company that has been making ropes for fishing fleets for hundreds of years, they have the best manufacturing plant in the world when it comes to these ropes.

I have to say it's a teensy bit ghetto for a winch rope rep to badmouth someone's purchase after they've sealed the deal, but master-pull itself is a legit company with top-notch products.

I listed both options, in my first post, since either one is a very good product. I, myself, went with the steel cable knowing I'd eventually swap it out for rope.

If the OP has a failure, which I kinda doubt, he has a ton of options that include finding a nice, take-off steel cable, or going with something like master-pull or otherwise.

cool beans.

Keep an eye on that rope, it isn't up to the standards of the companies that have been working with synthetics for the past decade and a half.

This quote on its own struck me as odd. Merely saying "it isn't up to the standards" is pretty vague and could be misconstrued as "bashing".

It might be an Sk75 fiber, but the manufacturing that takes the fiber and turns it into the rope gives you a different finished product.

This stands out to me (http://www.smittybilt.com/product/index/57.htm):

Quote:
94' of 21/64" Synthetic DSK-75 8,000lb rope

21/64ths is only 1/20th larger then 5/16ths ropes so that isn't a big deal, what concerns me is that the breaking strength they have of 8000lbs is 5000lbs weaker then our basic series rope which is rated to 13,000lbs in the 5/16ths diameter. So they have a slightly larger rope that is 5000lbs weaker then our weakest rope! Master-Pull Superline has a rating of 21,000 lbs for a 5/16ths rope, that is 2.5 times the rating of their rope. All of our ropes are rated at minimum breaking strength, whereas other companies will rate at average breaking strength.

This follow up post, however, helps to clear things up. He gives definitive reasoning and quotes right from the other manufacturer that could raise some serious questions of strength and safety. Yes, it was after the OP had stated he ordered a winch, but maybe that's when MasterPull saw the thread.
I say "No Foul".

Yep.. Some of the best specs on the market.. Fastest line speed and lowest current draw of ANY winch on the market for under $1000..

Best pricing I've seen on it was on Amazon.com w/ free shipping..

I picked up my X9 from summit last year it was $719 IIRC

I must have got a deal because they look like they are more mow.

Thanks, Call it a starter winch. :bike_rider:
If/when I need- I'll upgrade the rope. Even the winch if needed in the future.

I love how people bad mouth stuff made in China when most likely 95% of everything in your house was made there. Warn / Ramsey are great winches made in the U.S.A.
But till my wonderful employer will pay me wages to keep up with those type of prices I
will stick with my Chinese made Smittybilt XRC that has yet to fail me.

I have no need to go to the Master Pull shop.

Not only do they supply the recovery kits (including synthetic rope) to our troops to use, I have one of thier recovery kits myself.

Top notch equipment, and top notch customer service.

If the time comes for anyone to buy/upgrade to synthetic cable, give them a look.

And no, I don't work for them, or any of thier subsidaries.

Nor do I know any of the employees personally.

Only have communicated with them through pm's and email.

Best recovery gear I've ever used.

I'm on my second smittybilt, my first lasted less than a year with less than a dozen pulls on it. Going through 4wheelparts for a replacement under warranty wasn't an easy process but I attribute that to the manager who was more interested in looking out the window and realizing I don't drive a jeep and he wont make more money on me. My previous winch, a superwinch lp8500 fared much better and lasted a few years of heavy use and zero preventative maintenance.

so was it worth it? you save some money at the initial purchase, but only to get a few years (if even that) of use...
