Nevada: Risue Canyon, Desert Creek

Went out for a leisurely Sunday drive today with a buddy. We went into Risue Canyon in Nevada, east of Topaz Lake. The canyon separates the Wellington Hills to the north from the Sweetwater Mountains to the south.

This area burned badly in July of 2006 but, as you can see from the abundant wildflowers, is coming back nicely.

This is the remains of the Arrowhead Mine. You can see how close the fire came to the structures:

We followed Desert Creek north. The road crosses the creek several times. I think these would be difficult to impossible to make during spring runoff. No worries today.

Click any of the pictures to go to a Flickr album with lots more.

This was an excellent half-day trip. Looks like some fantastic camping along Desert Creek. Check the Humboldt-Toiyable National Forest website for info on that. Or, give me a shout back and we'll plan a trip.
