Hi,
I think I've read just about every tire post regarding options in the 255/85/16 size. I'm going to pull the trigger on one of these in the next 2 days. This is now my daily driver and will be experiencing a lot of road miles. My final decision will be based on road noise.

Does anyone have any real life experience comparing the BFG KM2 and Cooper ST in the road noise category?

Thanks in advance,
David...

I've had bfg mud terrains and my cooper s/t's are every bit as loud. I was suprised to say the least when I first put them on.

that's what I thought. Nobody has direct comparison but the comments I've read on the Coopers is that they are loud for an AT.

Why is it so hard to buy tires??? I'm putting too much thought into it

I've not had the Cooper ST's, but my KM2's were surprisingly quiet at first, now 8000 miles into them they are getting pretty noisy at 55-70mph.

My BFGs muds are flat out loud after about 20000 miles. I'm going to road tire next, in a 265 75/16. both to reduce noise level and get some power back. I do love the 255 but i'm not willing to regear... my .02, go with Cooper ATR or something like it if its a daily driver. :victory:

I run 255/85/16 Cooper Discoverer S/T’s on one of my 2500HD Silverados. They don’t have many miles on them yet but are certainly quieter than the 285/75/16 Generals on my other Silverado and very much quieter than the 36’ Superswampers on my ’78 K10 expo rig :sombrero:

May I suggest getting a second set of rims? If my Tacoma were my only mode of transportation, I'd just get a second set of OEM wheels off of craigslist for cheap and throw a set of A/S tires on it for daily commuting. Better wear, better ride, better MPG, better power, etc. I've seen plenty of Tacoma/4Runner/Tundra wheels go for less than $300 for both the wheels and tires. I bought my current set of 4Runner rims for $50 on craigslist.

I think this would be the most economical. The initial cost might be more, but if you will be putting lots of road miles, I know those MT's will wear quickly and even in a year's worth of time, you might be looking at another set of tires.

Great suggestion and that would truly be my first choice. Problem is I have no space to store the extra set.

BTW, great bike collection!

I am in the same boat (not the two days part though). I know this is the size I want but it is has been an excruciating task to choose a tire. I have analysis-paralysis real bad.

I could throw a wrench in the works and say how happy I am with the Toyo Open Country MT's and that they also come in 255/85/16.... :) I have a few friends with BFG km2s and they all seem to be wearing out kind of fast, but those are on big Dodge diesel trucks so who knows...

Ditto. They are not outrageously noisy, but you can definitely hear them. I understand they are quiet for a MT, but they are still a MT.
