new coleman popup for me!!!

i recently got a new (to me) coleman redwood seven from a guy on craigslist. its an '81 and about 9 ft by 6.5ft in good shape. This past week i painted the outside in the flat camo colors, green on bottom and tan on top, replaced the countertops, and did a good cleaning on the whole thing. i would like to flip the axle to get more romm for bigger tires and do whatever else i could to gain more clearance.

My problem lies in measuring the axle. When i put a caliper on it i measured it atr 1.25" but the smallest u-boilt kit i can find is 1.75". When i measured from the outside of the u-bolts it measured 1.75" but im not sure where i should be measuring from. also, what other ways could i gain lift from a small popup?

Any axle shop can make you a set of ubolts for a reasonable price.

That said...

You might check out the suspension as a whole.
Is the Chassis strong enough for your planned mods.
Could you reuse the ubolts you have?
Will the current axle take on heavier tires?

I would love to see your pics man, sounds like a fun project.

i just finished the axle flip, next will be some bigger tires and it will be ready for adventure!!! im headed out to cherry creek state park which is nearby to test it out so ill get some pics up this weekend.

New Pics

Here are some pics of my new gem. $700 trailer with about $200 in mattress covers, sheets, recovered cushons, new countertop, spring over, repainted outside, and more camping junk. I would eventually like to replace the axle with a 3500 lb on and fit 30's or 31's with a lock n roll hitch (i can dream cant i?) but now im just enjoying it and making memories. my next destination is a family vacation to lake mc conaughey (sp?) next weekend. ill keep updated with the progress. Now the good stuff.....pics.
