It wasnt expencive, it was $6. It was a pen light. The mechanic didn't "steal" my money it was the dealer. The reason for the flashlight was so he remembers me when I come back I get honestly. Ive been in the auto industry for 10 years.

PLUS he took time out of his day to explain alot of things to me about the truck. The problems, the solutions, tricks of the trade and whatnot.

I am heavily considering a canopy style camper. They are cheap and effective. If i can figure a way to make a "floor" in the canopy with tabs to lift the whole thing off it might just work better.

Can some people post up pics of canopys converted into campers?

Well after many months of scrounging for cash and looking for another job i finally achieved both. I got a job at Fed Ex as a driver. It took me a month and a half just to get the opertunity to drive. (in fact i just got a promotion, literally while i was typing this.)

This also affords me spendin monay!

Anyway. My girlfriend and I both has some stuff we left with a friend on the other side of the state when we graduated from college, so we decided to go over there and get it in the big beast. Not knowing what the actual fuel economy was going to be, or if it would make the trip without something disasterous happening; I changed the oil, crossed my fingers, and headed off to the Washington wheat fields at 8pm. Tthe timing was poorly chosen but i had confidence in my slef to fix whatever could have gone wrong. 180 miles into the trip i notied that the fuel gauge was still on full... wait a second, that cant be right, 30 gallons, 180 miles.... 16.5mpg? thats not that great... what? So trusting my fuel gauage and all my instruments that were seemingly honest i pressed on... 220 miles... down an quarter... what? really?! that cant be right. I finally pull into pullman at 1:00am with just over a half tank, like 5/8. I swung by a fuel station and started pumping. low and behold i only used 5/8 of a tank to go from puyallup washington to pullman. 300 miles. not a single problem. I am astonished.

Im turning 35" meats, with no tuning at all. does this seem right?

I am fully confident in my truck now.

and with the extra income we may see the resurection of project 1x1!

so what does this make your mileage? tell us 5/8 of a tank or 1/4 of a tank doesn't mean much. different sized tanks in different trucks. you also need to figure in your speedometer offset with the bigger tires. you actually went more miles than it said unless you have had it reprogrammed. so it's 1-2 mpg better than you think, unless you were going by you gps miles of course.

The speedo is almost exactly 5 mph off. So when it says 60, i'm doing 65.
I have a 30 gallon tank and I used 5/8 of a tank to go 300 miles

The truck MPG meter was telling me 16.5 average mpg. The math adds up, I'm just a little astonished that it was so good.

I was astonished also. :sombrero:

Don't underestimate the ability to get good mileage...but don't count on it either. It all depends on your right foot and driving habits. My 92 can gets about 17-22 pushing the 39s around. It did 24.5 on a trip to California when I still had 35s. If you really want to get great mileage slow down. If you can keep the boost under 2-3psi the mileage will go way up. Most of the time this means under 60 mph.

What Metcalf said. Good milage if you keep the speed down. Learn to drive by the boost and exh temp gages. < than 10# boost and < than 600* exhaust temp = 20+ mpg on my 8000# truck. I find myself shifting from 6th to 5th on most hills to keep the temp down. It takes fuel to drive up the exhaust temp!
